Thanks Mick, they have all I’d need. Is the Rover camshaft compatible with ours?
The professional garage reports good compression, no need for rebore and no burned valve. Just a bad cam follower and intermittently badly closing valve. Maybe camshaft wear, can’t tell. Definitely bad big ends and/or main bearings. The garage may have a turned crankshaft in stock with oversize bearings, let’s cross fingers.
Will do rings, exhaust valves, crankshaft. And Mick, have you received a package with cam followers, rockers, and rocker shafts? I haven’t got any bill from Mr. Rumsey, yet.
Good luck to you all getting there and back,
JeremyOctober 13, 2010 at 11:28 pm #3422HI Jeremy
Not sure about the cams? No parts landed here for you as yet? Think you need to chase Mr Rumsey.
Cheers Mick
October 14, 2010 at 2:54 pm #3423OK Mick, thanks. Maybe Mark’s waiting for me to send ££? Actually I found new ones, here, which would be a better idea anyway. But he did remove them especially for me so I owe him the courtesy of taking them.
To save money on grinding my crankshaft, which is expensive, here, I had thought of asking you for your crankshaft (ground, of course) and sending you mine (unground) up North with Tony. But it’s not worth it. I don’t even know if mine needs ground, and it will be a long time before I can take it out.
If I’d only had a 4pot instead of the 6 I’d probably be able to join you all!

October 14, 2010 at 10:43 pm #3424Hi all
Less than a week to go and so far all seams well. Non of the British contingent have so far had to call off the trip, so it looks like there will be 6 vehicles from the UK and 1 from Switzerland in Lyons la Foret next Thursday.
Marc/Michel, please could one of you be kind enough to call the campsite and let them know that there should be 7 units on Thursday and Friday, 11 units on Saturday.
We are still planning to wake up in Calias Thursday morning. steady drive to Abbeville. shop for lots of France food and wine. scenic to Lyons in the afternoon. Go for a beer in the early evening and see what happens?
Friday , the plan is to drive into Rouen.
Saturday, scenic drive through the French countryside and BBq in the evening?Lets hope the weather is kind?
Cheers Mick
October 15, 2010 at 2:03 pm #3425Hi all,
The British press seems to be making a news story about possible fuel shortages in France next week due to blockade of refineries. Whilst no doubt the Tdi boys can manage Yorkshire to Rouen and back and still have enough fuel to last them the following week ,us gas guzzlers might struggle a bit, am I going to need to fill every jerrycan I can carry at Dover and risk the wrath of Sea France trying to smuggle a tanker load onto the ferry? 😯
Kind regards
Phil & Jan
October 15, 2010 at 4:44 pm #3426Hi
The French government is busily trying to reassure everyone that fuel stocks will last at least a month. However, sales are up 50% with panic buying, so 2 weeks would be more realistic. Things shouldn’t get desperate until after our weekend (in theory!). It would make sense to have some reserve. In case you are forced to cross with empty jerry-cans, and meet with shortages in Calais, don’t forget that Belgium is only 30 mins away (fuel is cheaper there too)
Looking forward to meeting up next week,

Hi all,
I called the camp site this morning, everything is in order as per above plan.
Fuelwise, you should have no problem as blockades were sorted out by riot police yesterday.Safe journey and see you on saturday,
Kind regards,
Marc
October 17, 2010 at 7:03 am #3428Nearly ready – spending today trying to sort brakes locking on (non return valve type problem) and fuel starvation problems, then fit gas cage and pipes, jerrycan holder, sundry carpets etc!
October 17, 2010 at 11:03 am #3429Looking forward to meeting up!
A bientôt les amis !

I love France already!
October 18, 2010 at 10:49 pm #3431Hi all
Well, Barney is nearly ready for the trip. Have spoken with all the UK participants and apart from a few last minute problems with brakes, all seams to be on track to depart for France. The fuel strike is a little worrying, but instead of coming over empty as normal, we will be filling up in the UK and should have enough fuel on board to get us the the campsite. What a shame if we don’t have enough fuel to get home!!
I notice the weather is going to be changable and we will be getting some rain, but ever the optomist, I will be bringing my new BBq made out of a washing machine drum. Am hoping to cook all evening and this cooking should keep us all warm. I would be gratefull if fellow campers could bring along some charcoal to keep her nice and warm.
Also, some of us are bringing along local ‘Artisan’ produced food and beer, to share of the Saturday evening. if you want to bring something along, please do.
Hope you can all find the fuel to make it? See you all when yu get there.
Cheers Mick, Lou and William
October 19, 2010 at 11:46 am #3432Hi all,
Well, news on the fuel front aren’t great : I am told this morning that fuel ran out in Normandy almost everywhere, mostly diesel though, gazoline addicts should have -just- less of a problem. Fill as much as you can and don’t drive over 100 mph to make sure you don’t end up stranded in France…
checking out http://www.automoto.fr for petrol stations can help too
My tank is full, but I am still waiting for some gaskets to get the dormobile running in time for saturday…
See you soon hopefully!
MarcOctober 19, 2010 at 3:56 pm #3433😀 I take care of some charcoal, mike
marc, peux-tu demander si on sera au courant de leur avancement en france? 🙂

Bea will be carrying a GPS Tracker, anyone who wishes to see the progress of the Yorkshire contingent can PM me their email address and I will add you to my SPOT share page so you can see where we are in real time on Google maps.
Cheers
PhilOff to find some more fuel jerrycans!
