Yes Dave, it is brazing on the front wings as I had to have the rear part of then (where they fold over) cut out and replaced. I also added some strenghening bars to the back of the wings, as I thought they were very flimsy prior to resto.

Resto2.jpg[/attachment:xxb94hbd]I did see your reply about your fuel gauge, but I have’nt gotten round to trying to fix mine yet. 😥
May 23, 2009 at 9:37 pm #1795hi looks good not to sure i would use the van in primer i think i would put a court of colour on top as you know primer is porous i would’nt wont it to rust again.
my van is booked in for m.o.t on tuesday the first time on the road in 36 years fingers crossed paint wheels tomorrow daveMay 23, 2009 at 10:03 pm #1796I have used a 2K primer (2 pack) which is not porous. The grey primer is as good as a coat of gloss paint, only it’s flat…..lol. 😆 Anyway, at this rate, I’ll be lucky to even use it in primer, the amount of time I seem to be getting to spend on it. 🙁
Good luck with your MOT.Bedford.jpg[/attachment:2dx4wwt9]

June 21, 2009 at 4:20 pm #1799hi and thanks for that john.
Well after spending the last seven months of my life the dark cold winter its all been worth while to see the van get restored and being able to drive it after it being tucked away for the past 31 years.
This is a brief description of what i have done to the van and the only help i have had is with the mechanicals. We removed the engine and had it reconditioned, new piston rings, crank shaft regrind, new barrings, cylinder head, converted to unleaded petrol, new clutch, new hose the list goes on.
Bodywork which i have done on my own, stripped the bodywork down to bare metal and rust inhibitor on it, re-wheel arches, plate inside and out on both sides and sills and prime and paint, cleaned the chassis up and repainted it, removed the petrol tank and repainted it, again the list goes on. In which all this was completed in my garage at home which is approx 22ft by 12ft.THIS IS A FULL LIST OF PICTURES OF MY RESTORATION.

Many Thanks for looking

Dave GlanfieldJune 23, 2009 at 11:45 am #1802Hi Dave, nice to speak to you again yesterday. I’m not surprised your chuffed with your Romany as it looks excellent! I enjoyed seeing the resto photo’s and fully appreciate the work that has gone into it.
I pulled 4037 FG out and got her running last night, must admit to having second thoughts about selling but circumstances are so 🙄 I’ll give you an update later in the week as promised.
Well done on again on rebuilding a smart looking camper 😉

JohnSeptember 12, 2009 at 8:14 pm #1804hi all
after putting my van back on the road after all those years i have had the best 3 months of my life its been featured in several classic car magazines.
and that’s not the icing on the cake,
it was to day .
that i have been given a cup/trophy for the out right winner of Leigh nr Wigan Classic car show this has made my day as it was the public that voted and not the organisers .
so if anyone out their is doing what i have done do not get despondent, its been one hell of a ride since repairing the van.i’m forgetting to mention the dormobile owners club as i have been featured in this months magazine, the dormobile digest as i would like to thank the club for recognizing my efforts of bringing my van back to life.
