That looks really good Mick, will you add a tie bar accross the front top to stop any of the items coming forward when braking or are you relying on tieing the items down?
John
March 2, 2009 at 10:18 pm #1492Hi John
The option of having removable bars like on the original Dormobile rack is an optional extra. If you think they will be useful, I will drill the racks before they go for galvanizing.
Cheers Mick
March 3, 2009 at 4:49 pm #1493Looks good to me Mick, can I have mine with the front bar as John suggests please 🙄
and a CB Ariel mounting plate on the passenger side.Full test report on this roofrack fitted to Bea after our overland to Africa and back coming soon 😯
March 3, 2009 at 10:04 pm #1494What a brilliant piece of craftmanship! bravo!…
If you are still considering to produce a few more, then I am in for one !
Kind regards,
MarcMarch 4, 2009 at 6:44 pm #1495Dear Mick
That is looking really good.
Another project is using up all my spare cash at the moment otherwise I would be in the market for one now. Is that the prototype that you will hand on to the roof rack manufacturers that you mentioned last time, or are you planning on producing these yourself when the orders roll in?
Kind regards
Paul
March 4, 2009 at 6:57 pm #1496Hi Paul
The roof rack company wanted a minimum order of 5 racks, so I will be making these to order myself. They will be made in pairs to minimise the galvanizing costs. Not sure of the final cost yet, but it will be in the region of £250 for a galvanized rack.
I will post more pictures soon. The finished pair of racks I am building now should be finished tomorrow and to the galvanizers Friday.
Next job is the develop the rack to fit a Series 3
cheers Mick
March 6, 2009 at 9:31 am #1497Hi Marc
No problem building you a rack. As said above, I will be making them in pairs to gain some economies of scale.
When Bea gets back from his overland trip, I will check over the rack and then make a second batch. Will be in France again this summer, so could meet you in Calais, Aberville or in the Ed carpark at Rouen.
Or you would be very welcome to visit us in Glorious Yorkshire and have the roof rack fitted.
Cheers Mick
March 12, 2009 at 10:22 pm #1498Hi all
Roof racks are back from the galvanizers.
if anyone is interested, they will cost £250 including galvanizing.
Cheers Mick
March 16, 2009 at 12:29 am #1499Here are some pictures of the twin of ‘Barneys’ roof rack fitted to ‘Bea’ this one has a couple of extra features that I asked Mick to include such as the CB Ariel mount and front bar.
To me it looks right for the vehicle looking similar to the original Martin Walter/Brownchurch rack. Build and galv quality is excellent so nothing else to do but go and give it a good road test. 😀

March 21, 2009 at 7:12 pm #1502Hi Marc,
Before I officially ask Mick to build me one of these, I was wondering if you could help me relay it to Zurich? I can make time to get to one of the French Land Rover meets this summer, or maybe even to drive to your place (Bannegon is about as far as Paris for me).

April 26, 2009 at 8:23 pm #1505Hi Mick,
This is to confirm to you that Michel.j has decided that he too wants a roof rack…
So let us find out what the situation is : when, how etc.
We both will have a “standard” brownchurch, i.e without the front bar etc.Kindly let me know what can be done, you may use the adress : dormobile109@yahoo.fr
Best regards,
MarcPS, Jonny, if you read this, I have tried to send Mick a PM, but again it was blocked ; apparently JB Hackney suffered the same problem…
