August 30, 2007 at 11:09 pm #1476I was thinking of building a copy of the brownchurch rack out of 1/2″ bore tub as I have a tube bender somewhere in the garage. Suppose I could make two and charge you enough to cover the cost of making both of them 😀
December 22, 2007 at 10:48 am #1477How about the price for doubling production? (I need 2!)
December 22, 2007 at 11:29 pm #1478Hi Marc
That would be 5 I have to make. Just moved house and not yet got the garage sorted enough to start this project. I have not yet even got my Dormobile at my new house. Should get all my vehicles to the new house early in the new year and will then probably knock together a prototype. It will not be an exact copy of the brownchurch. More of a mark 11 version?
Is there a size you particularly want?
I will be in Limousin in June, so could get them nearly to you?
Let me know.
Cheers Mick

Hi Jabbawocky, since I got my dormobile now, yes I confirm that we (that is Michel who to I sold the first dormie from Essex as I found the chassis repairs beyond my skills and I) would love to get a roof rack of yours. Let us know if that is still on and how much you wish for the job please,
You are very welcome to visit us as and when to travel to France in June, let’s keep in touch,
Kind regards,
Marc

If I’m still in time can I add another order for a Brownchurch type thingy.
How much (£’s) are you after and are you going to triangulate the rear and mid roof gutter support tubes a la Terri Ann?
Kind Regards
Paul

No you are not too late. Not started yet. Still in the thinking stage and looking for gutter clamps?
Yes, I will be making them with plenty of bracing. I will be making them out of tube rather than box section.
If anyone reading this has pictures of how the original racks fitted on, please can you post them here or e-mail copies to me. mick@oacc.co.uk.
If anyone knows where I could get something to use as gutter clamps, please let me know.
Cheers Mick
February 29, 2008 at 8:53 pm #1482For a roof rack on another landy, I found that…
Now, my english isn’t rich enough
Using L shapedmetal pieces, about 2mm thick, found at the local DIY store and normally designed to be used as stoppers for outside windows wooden panels in a house, cemented into the wall on one end.
Well, that explanation is apalling
I shall post pictures instead. 😳February 29, 2008 at 9:21 pm #1483Hi Marc
Been hoping someone would say, ” I used,,,,,”

May 30, 2008 at 10:08 pm #1484Hi all
I am now in a position to start making the racks. Should have an idea of cost and a photo of the prototype in a week or so.
Can those of you who said they wanted one, please reconfirm that you are still interested.
Cheers Mick

Good to hear from you, if you are now on the roof rack, it must be that the rest of the dormie is getting near completion, isn’it?
I am still definitely on for 1
I see my other dormie pal next week and will ask him : he has a kind of light safari roof over the cab… how cute
And will also post it onto the series club here in FranceStill coming over to limousin in JUne?
bye

June 6, 2008 at 6:04 pm #1487Hi all
I have now had a quote from a local Manufacturer of roofracks. http://www.clitheroeroofracks.co.uk/land-rover_van_racks.htm
The design will be similar to the one shown on the SWB on their site, but with struts down to the series 2 windscreen hinge bolts. It is roof width and 40″ length.
The cost is £235 inc vat, if we order the five I have been asked to make. Let me know if you are still interested.
I have not adding any money to this figure, that is what we will all have to pay.
Cheers Mick
