Any thoughts on this? As the Frogs manifestly fail to organise a festive reunion in an alcohol-producing establishment, may the descendants of William Tell fill the gap? I’m prepared to organise something in the ‘Chablais’ (SW Switzerland) for the Autumn if anybody’s interested?
June 3, 2010 at 5:37 pm #3151Hi Tony (it is you, isn’t it?),
The new cylinder head is in, engine runs, paint is drying. Sure, I can make it to Chablais in Autumn!
Thanks for this initiative (though I was looking forward to learning the location and dates of the French meeting … )

June 3, 2010 at 6:10 pm #3152Thanks Jeremy
Guilty as charged! I was also looking forward to a meeting in the ‘Hexagon’ (France) – but I’m hoping to provoke a Gallic reaction!! In any case, I’m very pleased to know the Swiss (roadworthy) Dormobile contingent will be present 100% and running on all cylinders!!

June 4, 2010 at 1:11 pm #3153HI Tony
Would love to come and meet up, but 1700 mile round trip is a little far for a weekend meet up. I was hoping that Marc or Michel were going to organise a weekend a little closer to channel as travelling with a 3 year old on board does restrict the hours we can drive.
I will have to improve my French so that I can understand the responses you receive for your first post!!! I could of course be wrong, but watch out when the French arrive for the meet up. You could end up being lunch 😆

June 4, 2010 at 4:42 pm #3154Hi Mick
Yes it is a bit far. It was rather a tongue-in-cheek suggestion, trying to provoke some lively banter!
However, I could well end up as émincé de rosbif avec rösti 😉Are you still planning to be in the Chamonix area in late July?
June 4, 2010 at 6:39 pm #3155HI Ant
We have decided to cut our holiday by a week, so that Louise can spend a week with her father, who is not in the best of health. Our original aim was to spend a week in the Alps, then drive down to Frejus. Our present plan is to drive down to the Alps, do a bit of wild camping and then head north again. So, yes, we are hoping to be in the Alps in late July.
Cheers Mick

‘The Alps’ is a bit vague! I could be back from “Mud Island” in the last week of July, and Chamonix is quite close to me. However, I also have contacts in the Jura Neuchatelois (near Pontarlier), and as this is closer for Jeremy, ( 75% of Dormobile Switzerland!!) perhaps we could persuade him to meet up too – of course, any French Dormobiles would be very welcome also – I should be delighted to introduce them to some decent (Swiss ) wine and food! 😉
Let me know your itinerary and dates as soon as you can.All the best,
AntJune 5, 2010 at 9:27 am #3157I’ve got a 2- and 5- year old so like Mick I’m limited by making frequent stops at playgrounds and toilets. And my wife still won’t drive the 2A so I also don’t mind a break from driving every hour or so.
I was however very serious about making the French rendezvous this year if/when it is nailed down. If necessary this would proceed with only the hardiest subset of the family unit, or my family meeting me and the Dormobile there via a train, etc.
“Bannegon” or les bale les series (sic) was also on my list for late August but despite being in the South this year is still 550km from here.
I’d like to meet you, Mick, since you’ve helped me a lot. I’m sure my Dormobile can make it to Yorkshire but it might shake me apart. I’d rather take the opportunity to see you when you’re within a few 100 km’s … Alps, Jura, etc.
And Tony, if you don’t mind … keeping us anglophones informed of the French progress in the other thread?

June 5, 2010 at 5:37 pm #3158Hello, it is true I tried to finalize(to work out) a reunion last year and this year but I have no returns
😥bonjour, c’est vrai j’ai essayé de mettre au point une reunion l’année passée et cette année mais je n’ai pas beaucoup de retours 😥
June 5, 2010 at 6:12 pm #3159Bonjour Michel.

Sorry for being vague, but we are coming on a touring holiday and apart from the ferry, never book anything or make any plans. We like to get lost and discover bits of France we have never seen before.
We are aiming to spend a week or so, in the hills between Chamonix and Briancon, probably a few days either side of the weekend 24th – 25th July. If someone organises a get together not too far from the France border, Louise has agreed that we can come and meet up. As long as the wine .is still part of the deal. 😉
This is of course subject to me getting Barney fit to travel in.

June 6, 2010 at 9:04 am #3162Hi Mick & Jeremy
I don’t like being tied to a strict itinerary either! Around the weekend 24-25 July seems a possibility. I’m about 20 minutes from Martigny, which is the other side of the Col de la Forclaz between Chamonix and Switzerland. If that’s not too far out of your way, perhaps we could organise something?michel.j has suggested a meeting in the Autumn at this little site between Compiegne and Soissons
viewtopic.php?f=37&t=639He also said they are thinking about a reunion at a classic camper meeting for next Spring.
What do you think?
June 6, 2010 at 5:49 pm #3163Hi Tony
The site Michel has picked would great for a meet up, but as we are coming to France in July, there is not much chance of returning this Autumn. As for the spring get together, three Yorkshire Series 2 Dormobile’s are planning to go to Morocco in late April, so sorry that is out also. The Morocco trip will be our main holiday next year, but as it is so early in the year, an autumn long weekend in France may be what is required to recharge our batteries before the long nights of winter set in.
As for nipping over the boarder in to Switzerland in July to meet up. That should not be a problem. Just need to find somewhere to park up for the night. All our books are for France. Struggling at present to think of a single reason to visit Switzerland? Is it famous for anything? Apart from your banks?
Mick
June 6, 2010 at 7:28 pm #3164Hi Mick
I think William Tell, the Red Cross, the United Nations, Calvin, Rousseau, Roger Federer, CERN, Pilatus, Oerlikon, Sulzer , Velcro and Logitech stack up pretty well against your bl**dy Pudding – the only thing Yorkshire is famous for (apart from that weird game where you beat a piece of cow with a stick of wood)!!
However, if you really want to keep eating snails and frogs, we could meet nearer Chamonix! I don’t think you’ll get a visa now anyway!!
