vw dormobile roof in bits- assembly queries- help! manuals??

i have a 71 VW bay dormobile with the roof ‘placed’ on top. ive sourced new hinges, seals etc but am now due to fit it all back together. ive photographed 1 or 2 folks poptops in the up position (thanks) to check out mounting points etc so should be ok.

heres the daft question- are the 2 spring loaded arms at the front and rear, preloaded to make lifting the roof easier? i would assume so. if so i’m gonna have a right old game trying to hold them in tension while i get the roof back over without them flinging up.

has anyone done this or have any tips?
does anyone have any factory fitting instructions? ive looked everywhere.
