Hi there, my father is considering selling his 1971 (H reg) grey VW Dormobile camper van.

The vehicle has been owned by him since 1974 and used for familly holidays up to the early nineties. It has covered around 40000 miles. It is in 100% totally original condition with Dormobile interior and raising roof. There have been no modifications.

It has been used sporadically for the last eight years. People keep knocking on the door and asking to buy it but until now my dad has not been interested.

My main query is how much this vehicle is actually worth? It has no MOT and is tax exempt. There is some rust to the two front doors but has been carefully looked after over the years.

Is it worth MOT’ing this vehicle or are enthusiasts willing to take these vehicles as is?

I would be interested to hear from anyone who has bought one of these and perhaps restored it. Anyone who is interested in purchasing it is welcome to give me their opinion as well.

I hope to have some pictures and more details soon.

    Many thanks

    Regards
    Simon

The link above points to a picture of the same vehicle on another web site.

Please note this is NOT the van but is the same colour/style etc

I would certainly get it MOTed, especially if you are confident about its condition, as any buyer would expect a much lower price to reflect the risk in buying a vehicle without an MOT.

As an owner of a VW Dormobile I am aware that there is a strong demand for ones in good original condition and being tax exempt is also an added attraction. Prices vary greatly, although there tends to be less demand at this time of year. Prices for an unrestored one in good condition with an MOT vary upwards from £2000. A well restored one with full respray etc can sell for as much as £6000.

Many thanks, we will definately MOT it and take it from there.

Hi, I might be interested in your bus – with or without the MOT. If you could let me view it I would be grateful.
    Regards 🙂
