Split bus pop top decision

An age old dilema but we have a nice SA split bus which I have now fitted out as a camper. We’ve three children so for this year our youngest is sleeping in a cab hammock and the other two have a bed extension and tent (flyaway designs) that pops out of the rear. Originally the rear extension was meant to stop me cutting a hole in the roof and retro fitting a pop top roof but I keep thinking what fun it’d be having the bunks and airy space up there! Any comments would be appreciated, as I have invested a lot in the bus and want to look after it and not damage it. The roof I was going to fit I would source from either Dormobile themselves or a refurbished original from Proud to Pop.
