Has anyone out there in CA World got a spare 1508cc engine, that they could be convinced to part with….

Work on ‘Gertie’ has ground to a halt after finding a well disguised bodge by a previous owner..
(See ‘Waaah core plugs’ thread)

Shame as the compression is good and the engine ‘appeared’ to run OK..

Anything will be considered at this stage!!Cwncarn 016.jpg[/attachment:2etqgzv2].

The ‘repair’ has body filler smoothed over and painted in engine lacquer, and as it was under the manifold, was reasonably well hidden 🙄 However, when the spotwelded core plug fell out, I thought that something wasn’t quite right 😆

Any info on a replacement will be much appreciated, even a useable block.

Cheers, AndyCwncarn 019.jpg[/attachment:2etqgzv2]

I had the same problem with a CA I gave some time ago, frozen block or bad casting?… had the block soldered also.
I quite easily found core plugs by a local machine shop, never fitted them though… 🙄
It’s “only” a problem of cooling channel so if the soldering is well done there won’t be any further problem. If you are not confident with it I advice to have the block tested, it would be cheaper than buying another one.

I have what I think is a 1508 Victor engine, I have no idea what the engine is like as I wanted it to rip apart and refurb, to fit in my Van. I think i’m keeping my original engine, so if you want it, make me an offer.

Regards

Thanks Nigel.

Was that the engine Olly mentioned a little while ago?

I’ve managed to track down an engine and ‘box very locally, so I’m looking/ buying that on Sunday, but I’ll bear you in mind also in case the engine I’m buying turns out to be a ‘scrapper’

It’s the newer 1600 4 speed, so should give ‘Gertie’ a tiny bit more oomph 😆

Thanks again, Andy

This van will have the 1508 engine, may be useful for other parts as well

Thanks 🙂

I spied that one the other day and put it on watch.

It’s the same as ‘Gertie’, identical model , colour and year. I’ll see what the chap I’m seeing tommorrow has in the way of spares, then contact the Ebay chap afterwards.

Cheers, Andy
