For Sale is my 1980 Sherpa Deauville, this is the vehicle featured on the home page of this website.
About this vehicle
Base Vehicle:-
Austin Rover Sherpa 200 fitted with a 1.7l petrol (this engine is new and has just covered 1500 miles) The gearbox is a 4 speed with laycock overdrive, this allows you to split 3rd and 4th gears. 60mph is 3000rpm.The chassis is a ‘c’ section and does not trap water, it is therefore in extremely good condition and is wax oiled.
The cab section has a some rust to the foot wells, and has been welded to make any weak areas good. The only change from standard specification are the two front seats which are from a range rover, and a CD & MP3 radio.
Four good tyres with 80% tread still left.
The Dormobile bit:-
Probably the pinnacle of Dormobile design, there is a lot to explain so I’ll list to be brief:
Insulated walls, with double glazed windows.
Roof vent
Over cab double bed (4ft wide by 6ft long)
Seating for 4/5 around the table, this converts to another double bed
Under seat storage, over head storage, drawers, cupboards, wardrobe, external gas locker can hold two 7kg bottles.
Shower/toilet room, with drop down sink, toilet not supplied note normally a porta potty is used
Gas, 12v and 240v fridge
240v electric hook up with trickle charger, feeding one or both batteries (one for engine one for back up)
18 gal cold water tank feeding a gas water heater this feeds to the shower and the kitchen sink.
Stainless steel kitchen sink with drainer
Gas Oven, grill and two ring hob
Fiamma awning with one side panel
Interior upholstery was replaced around 7 years ago and is in excellent condition, no pets or smokers. So what’s it like to own:
Plus points – the base vehicle is in great condition for 30 years old and is very easy to work, access for maintenance is great. She starts very easily, is reliable.
The minus points:-
No power steering.
The outer skin on the Dormobile body is thin aluminum, this tends to bubble water under the paint, I’ve repainted it a few times but it keeps coming back, I think this is a preparation issue. The vehicle is located 4 miles towards Jn 13 M1 towards Bedford and is offered for £3500, it will come with 6 months tax and MOT – ready to go for this season.
