      Hello,

I though I’d share with you this very cool Dormobile I saw in Switzerland recently.

6 cylinder, original owner! I didn’t meet him, but I learned from the garage where it was standing that it spent its life in South Africa. As far as I could see, the chassis and bulkhead don’t have any rust at all and have never been welded. This is how 40-year old vehicles from my home state of Colorado look.

It is a “G” chassis right hand drive export, but now it is left-hand drive; I suspect the whole vehicle is 100% original, but was simply converted to left-hand-drive by the Swiss owner, many years ago. It even still has the cloth roof tie-downs.

The owner has added some storage cabinets inside, lots of zippered canvas storage bags and storage nets, and done away with the table. He put in safari roof vents in the front, and a mysterious fiberglass box on top of them. It has two side fuel tanks and this forced him to move the battery (now behind the seatbox) and the gas bottles (now under the stove). It has a Salisbury rear axle (which I think in this case is an owner upgrade). The exterior is covered with snaps (press studs), which I would guess serve to attach bug netting.

      -Jeremy
