After a conversation with Wyvern, we started thinking. Esther has been to bits of Scandinavia before and I have always poo pooed it as being too expensive and too far way.
However, it does seem possible to have a reasonable look at (bits of) Denmark, Sweden and Norway within a fortnight and 2000 miles round trip.
Interesting that we might go down to Essex and go Harwich Eskberg and come back via Germany and Netherlands (Rotterdam / Hull)
The less good news is that our daughter wants to come as well which could well have an impact on my dreams of al fresco romance overlooking fjiords !!
Watch this space (not for that – for development of our trip plans)
Be in touch Wyvern

Sorry for the long quiet spell but have been madly busy at work and home since crimble… but am now back on the jazz!!
I’ll try and get a proper route of the trip and where we went what we saw thing on the site by the end of the month – so hope that will help!

June 22, 2012 at 12:40 pm #4431Well, 3 weeks to go now. Should get the Dormobile back from the garage this evening. Head gasket all done and up and running. I just haven’t the time or space what with the other DOmobile project taking so much of it.
So, assuming all goes well, the plan is as follows;
Weekend of the 13th 14th July, bob down to Ely FOlk Festival where I am dancing with Wrigley Head Morris Men, then catching the monday afternoon ferry from Harwich to Esbjerg, arriving on Tuesday early afternoon.
Not sure of the time we are planning to stop in each country yet, but we don’t want to do a lot of rushing about.
From Esbjerg, we will go up to Hirsthals and catch the ferry to Kristiansand in Norway and have a gentle pootle to Oslo via wnatever scenic route takes out fancy.()may be 2 or 3 days
From Oslo, the plan is to drive into Sweden and down to Malmo, via (perhaps) Gothenburg, over a couple or three or four days. From Malmo, the plan is to go via bridge but maybe ferry, across to Germany (Lubeck ish) and then trundle to Europort Rotterdam for the ferry on Friday the 27th July when, coincidently, the mot is due!
Esbjerg to Rotterdam will be in the region of 1500 miles (but probably more).
Looking forwards to a mixture of wild camping and campsites and, dare I say it, trouble free travelling.
Similar scenes to this
and this
but not much of this
June 24, 2012 at 3:21 pm #4432Good luck, Alex! And have fun. Did you watch the “trip to nordkap” video on youtube that i posted a link to on the Series 2 Club forum? Some German guys in the 1970s driving Land Rovers through rural Norway and Sweden. I have a friend here in Switzerland who’s planning to take his ’62 Dormobile (Land Rover) to Sweden this summer with 2 kids & wife. That’s a long, long way!!

June 29, 2012 at 12:37 pm #4437July 5, 2012 at 7:22 pm #4438Hi Alex
Hope you have a great holiday? Sorry I haven’t sorted the brackets for the table, but if you want to borrow my setup for your trip, you are very welcome to it.
Three weeks into our house extension, so won’t be going anywhere for the next 3 months. Brick dust in your food makes me hanker for the open road, but that will have to wait until next year.
Cheers Mick
