Why not have a gallery of our cherished dormobiles? Either up and running or half way through the project
Here is my initial contribution :
You will see the blue K reg (mine) is a 1971 (V5 says) SIIA 6 pot : it worked at some stage at “The falconry house”, anyone heard of the place?
and also Michel’s grey french reg, formely an H reg SIIA 6 pot too ( the essex girl), barn stored and 14.000 genuine miles (one photo of the grey interior is hers).
Enjoy the screening,
Marc
June 22, 2008 at 12:12 pm #1671Superb(es)! 😉
Thanks a lot for these picturesJune 22, 2008 at 4:08 pm #1672Paul (our webmaster) is working or forum upgrades, I’ll ask him to set up a gallery section for photos.
here is mine, out gathering wood in prep for winter in front of the fire!!!!
🙄June 23, 2008 at 8:39 am #1673Great idea, Marc!
There are some other nice pictures elsewhere on the forum, too. I dunno if they can be moved to the gallery?
I love comparing Dormobiles. They’re all different.
Mine is a February 1969 RHD export, former 6-pot G-reg, marine blue with black interior. Now unlicensed in Zurich because it needs rust treatment. I have my own gallery here:
http://n.ethz.ch/~jhackney/Dormobile.html
I want to return some of its originality as well as fix the rust, brakes, and leaky roof. I just put the roof back together with new parts from Tim Debues. Web updates will follow, soon.
How long til it looks like John’s? Wow!
Where can I get replacements for my lost fog lights? I have the mounts and the wires in place, but no lights!

June 29, 2008 at 7:53 pm #1674This is RU
1963 very original with white crinkle painted rather than silver metal wardrobe & sink unit and in need of a new chassis when bought in late 2006. Now being reassembled on a galvanised Richards chassis with a 200TDI replacing the original 2286cc petrol engine.
As was in 2006
Kind regards
Paul
July 27, 2008 at 1:19 pm #1675And this is the 1966 Dormobile bought last Thursday from Graham & Shiela
Came with all the extras promised, full years MOT, original dormobile bolted roofrack & rear tent, new bike rack, green bible, original owners manual & 24 years of bills, MOT’s & history.
Also came with an unwanted optional extra, courtesy of Grahams’s neighbour who 45 minutes before I arrived on Thursday to pay the balance and pick up, reversed her 4×4 hard into the nearside front wing.
Graham is dealing with that claim so hopefully soon all will be straightened out..
I am off to a sailing championship in this as yet unnamed Dormobile (Graham hadn’t named her either during the 24 years of his ownership) at the end of next week and then to the Series II club international weekend in mid-August.
It is great to have a Land Rover that for the first time ever is road ready rather than a “project” so plan on keeping it until RU is on the road and in a year or so’s time will sell as I can’t afford to run two (or can I?).
Even better, Mo (my better half) thinks it is “sweet” and (in front of witnesses) has said she will camp out in it for the night of the sailing awards on Friday next week.
Kind regards
Paul
July 28, 2008 at 8:23 pm #1676Hi Paul
Looks a great truck. Look forward to seeing it at the Series 2 Club International. What is the tent you have got with it? Is it an original Martin Walters tent?
Cheers Mick
July 29, 2008 at 1:46 pm #1677Hi Mick
Yes I’m lead to believe it came with the vehicle, which has pop studs fitted to the rear sides to close off the tent.
I haven’t got the tent out of the bag so far so we shall see at the International. I’m told that it is not free standing which is a shame.
Kind regards
Paul
July 29, 2008 at 7:33 pm #1678It would be good to see an original Dormobile tent the only thing more rare, is the Dormobile potty (made by Elsan)
August 1, 2008 at 8:27 am #1679Hi Paul
Would be great to see the tent up. Would like to get some photos and measurements, so that i could make a copy, if thats ok with you? I think Phil N was also interested in having one??
Cheers Mick
August 1, 2008 at 3:59 pm #1680You’re welcome to do that Mick,
Kind Regards
Paul
August 17, 2008 at 6:15 pm #1681Dormobile pics from the UK Series 11 club international this weekend @ Sibbertoft, Northampton, it wasn’t all off roading though!
Good job done by the organisers
Kind regards

August 17, 2008 at 9:06 pm #1682Nice Pictures, do you find the Dormobile a bit unstable off road with all that weight in the roof?
John
August 18, 2008 at 8:33 am #1683Hi Jonny
Should add the pictures were of Ian’s (“Dormy”) Dormobile not mine as I had lost 2nd gear selection on the way to the event.
Ian did drive me and a Carawagon’s owner round the complete course for 45 minutes earlier in the day and the weight uptop made surprisingly little difference, although after a galvanised chassis transplant, he had not had time to refit the cooker & wardrobe units (and the spice rack was empty) and we did not cross steep side slopes just in case.
Also more difficult to ground out than I would have thought.
Ian’s approach to the course was “enthusiastic” and both driver & passengers had broad smiles all the way round, as did the spectators.
Kind regards
Paul
April 1, 2011 at 2:51 pm #1684Gentelmen,
You did an incredible job with these vehicles, and I am in awe looking at the photos. There is nothing better than being able to do a little bit of off-roading during the day time and make your way to the most secluded part of the mountain for an overnight camping session in the doromobile. Props to everybody involved with the Land Rover project these kick some serious booty. Have any of you ever been able to construct a wheelchair lift on you van conversion? I have aspirations of taking my brother camping in some remote locations…
