MOT fail

My van failed, it has had its 1st MOT in 5 years
It failed on

Front brakes out of balance
brake pipe badly routed and insecure
Lower N/S trunnion excess play
rear brakes both binding

A quick trip to see Peter Dobbs in Huddersfield, and he has managed to sort me the parts, so the van should running by next week !!
Quite how a brake pipe can make itself insecure, and a trunnion can gain play whilst the van is stood is beyond me !!

Was that the Deboanir Russell? I’m going to put mine in for an MOT soon and I expect it to fail but at least I then know what to fix. It’s clears things up in many ways.

You sat it’s the first MOT in 5 years. Has your van been off the road then? If so, it hasn’t failed on a lot really. 😀

It’s only done 1000 miles since 1988 !!! so has been stood a very long time. I did get it to MOT 5 years ago, but it has stood since then.

Nicely done Russel. I now have everything sorted except for the door locks and the wiper motor. MOT in a month or two then maybe.

Made it Scorton (and back) without any problems, other than the gears are a pig to find, and the timing chain rattles like mad when warm, the carb leaks petrol from the top of it, the spindle on the carb sticks the throttle open a bit.
