Hi I’m in Australia, and bought a 1966 Leyland 20 Dormobile about 3 years ago, does anyone know what original engine would have been used?. more importantly does anyone know on what chassis she was build on, was it a commercial chassis if so what kind?. I would really appreciate the help, as I’m looking at starting to restore her, but if possibe, and within a budget I haven’t even written yet, try and turn her into a 4 wheel drive, so that access to the more remote places are possible, for dirt roads and tracks that you miss if you don’t have a 4 wheel drive, for my around Australia trip, in the next couple of years. Any and all information or tips would be greatly appreciated. Cheers 🙂

If so I’m pretty sure it would have had the 1500 B Series motor in it. This motor was used in a few different vehicles and should be easy to find if you need spares etc. Or you could upgrade and fit the 1800 B Series motor from an MGB 😀
December 15, 2015 at 12:39 pm #5302Hi Jerroyd, thanks for the response it does look like it a little bit, I will attach a photo off this site from the gallery, I’m going to have to go with a bigger tougher engine here as the distances to travel are huge and also when it’s 40cdegs and more, I will need samething that can handle the Australian conditions, as much as I would love to keep it as original as possible, mine definitely not in this condition haha! Has door rust and around the windscreen, also the loot pan in the cab needs replacing, and the brakes, I don’t know what I’m doing around cars, well I know enough to do very basic things, so all the reading or visual tips on where I might find out more information I can get hold of the better. I have only had a small look under at the Chassis, it looks ok, but need a professional to tell me how it is, my mechanic is a good bloke, never over charges or unnecessary work. I have the original seats, and they are in pretty good condition.
Thanks again. Whereabouts are you in Australia ?? I’m approx 50 kilometres north west of Brisbane 😀December 18, 2015 at 6:00 am #5304Thanks that’s helpful, if I can do it without me remortgaging the house, I’m in Melbourne, so not very close!
