Hi all
it’s the that time of year again and time to start booking Ferries/Tunnel for our spring half term dash to Normandy. This year is the 100 birthday of the Cub Scouts and William is going to celebrate with all the other North Yorkshire Cubs at a special Camp at Pateley Bridge the first weekend of half term. This means that this year we are going mid week and invite anyone who wished to join us. We will be traveling down to the Tunnel Tuesday the 31st May 2016 and crossing late evening, We will probably stopping on the Aire de Service in Boulonge sur Mer and that will be the first rally point for anyone that wishes to join us. We will be there until 10.00am.
As normally we will then be driving down the Autoroute (as short a time as sensible) to Forge les Eaux and stopping at the Dia Supermarket to stock up on food and to buy lots of wine to test (we get several different bottle to find out which ones to buy a case of on the way home). This discount supermarket has great fruit, veg and a fully butchery counter. The supermarket is the second rally point and we would have a bit to eat here, but would aim to leave about 1.30pm for the campsite. The campsite is only another 40 mins driving through the lovely gently rolling Normandy countryside.
The Campsite is on the edge of the lovely very small market town of Lyons la Foret. Lyons la Foret is well know in France as a place to go and be seen. It has been the place to go for over a 1000 years as William the Conqueror was a frequent visitor and the English and French kings fought over it for years. Only 800 people live in this very sleepy town today, but there are several bars and restaurants, including one with a Michelin star. The two bar tabac and creperie offer good value dining, but 38 euros for a Michelin star dinner is pretty good value in my opinion. Not that I have been, maybe this year?
