Hi, I’m in the middle of restoring my 1970 Bedford CA Dormobile, and I’m nearly ready to remove the front end to facilitate repairs. Can someone tell me how the front wings are held on at the rear, near the drivers door.? I know their bolted on, but can’t see how their attached at the rear.
Thank in advance, Gary 😀
February 5, 2009 at 1:45 pm #2113Hi Gary,
From what I can remember when doing the same, there we a number of bolts that went through a lip on the the wing and through a lip on the driver’s side.
There was also a supporting bar between the wing and the van. If that doesn’t help and no one else replies I will be going back to my van to do some work (still not quite water tigt around the windscreen!) over the next couple of days and I wouldn’t have a problem either taking another look as to how I got it off, or to take some photos for you.
In this photo you can see the support bar at the front of the vehicle and the lip that it bolts through: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=2605324&l=52eee&id=556715211
On second thoughts and after looking at my photos I think it was only attached to the rear by one bolt:

You can see the metal it bolts onto at the top of the wheel arch.
Hope this helps,
Martin.February 5, 2009 at 4:04 pm #2114Thanks Martin, a great help. I’m not ready just yet to remove the wings, but now I can see where it’s bolted underneath, I’m sure I’ll get them off OK. Other photo’s will certainly be a big help though, thank you.
Have you any other photo’s of your van, I’d love to see them. I’ll post some of mine to the web, and stick a link on here if you would like to see any of mine. 😀
Gary.

February 24, 2009 at 8:13 am #2115Hi Niki
Threr are 3 bolts on top where the bonnet covers
Several bolts or captive screws holdnig it onto the front headlight panel
1 screw under the wheel arch near the door
The wing then unhooks from the front door post ,it just wraps around this post wth no fixings.
On mine I didn’t have the strengthening bar ,I don’t know if it should , but it seems solid without it.
regards JimFebruary 26, 2009 at 6:40 pm #2116Thanks for that Jim, I’m nearly ready to reomove the front end now, so your explanation will come in handy. I must admit, I was wondering how the back of the wing (the bit near the door) was held on, as I couldn’t see any bolt heads. I had wondered if they were attached like the Mini A panels.
Regards, Gary (Niki is my son) 😀
