In the Dormobile Digest Issue 90 there was a brief paragraph on page 18 about free parking in Essex for tax exempt vehicles:
“It has been brought to our attention that car parks operated by Essex County Council all indicate that tax-exempt vehicles have no charge. This has been checked and they said their policy covered all tax-exempt vehicles, so it also covered historics. So, free parking in Essex for our vehicles!”
Living in Essex I thought I would inquire about this as it would be ideal to make use of, and I also wanted to see if they did a badge or sticker so that attendants were aware of this fact. I phoned up Essex County Council parking services and they told me that Country car parks would be free for tax-exempt vehicles however I should check with Colchester Borough Council to find out about any other car parks. When I phoned up Colchester Borough Car park they told me that none of the car parks, not even country car parks were free for tax-exempt, or any, vehicles. The only cars that have a benefit are low emission cars which have a reduced fee.
I would be very grateful if someone could clarify this situation for me. Where and with was it checked by the Dormobile Digest publishers? Has anyone taken advantage of the free parking? If so I would love to hear of how you went about it and where it is valid.
Many thanks,
Martin
