Had a few days across la Manche, holiday mixed with visiting my son (including taking stuff he had left at home) and dropping in on Marc 78.
Decided to go Newhaven Dieppe because of the 4 hour crossing, proximity to Normandy / Brittany and price – £240. We also used the aire on the docks – very similar to that in Calais.Had a niggling water loss. Eventually located and made worse, by tightening up the jubilee clip on the heater to cylinder head hose. Forced a road side repair – cutting off 2 cm and re fitting.
The overdrive refused to stay in gear, so a bunjy strap was employed and a joint operation (passenger and driver) employed to undo bunjy on clear roads and motorways, but tighten again on approaches to roundabouts etc.
First stop was Pont l’eveque. – not may others there!
followed by a visit to Camenbert
and to Marc and his family
where we had the use of his meadow for our overnight stay. The asparagus and raclet were wonderful – many thanks again Marc and Virginie
couldn’t miss the photo opportunity
Also a vist to the dechetterie in Marc’s fantastic 109. So original and great condition.Of course, we couldn’t miss out on a blast down the Mulsanne straight either
We met up with Esther’s sister in Amboise for a couple of days. Not much to see apart from the chateau, Loe DaVinci’s house and
So, on to Vitre (near Rennes) to see offspring. It was carnival time – three hours of tacky floats, so we had to retire to a bar.
After a stop in Lisieux where I tried to fix the overdrive but dropped a nut into it instead, which meant that I removed the overdrive and fitted the original gear etc, we drove to Fecamp and camped for a couple of nights.
on the way back home – a lunch stop
Another night in the aire not a good one!! and then back on board to Newhaven
Problem with brakes – really like fad, but when cold which appears to be a leaking cyclinder on the drivers side front bottom cylinder and a wierd wear pattern on the passenger side front brakes might be the casue. Yesterday I replaced the rear springs with parabolocs and tightened up the steering box a bit. Hopefully ok for the next trip.
