The most recent jaunt across La Manche was via Dover Dunkerque and return Dieppe Newhaven. The Dunkerque aire was impossible to find in the dark so we spent a few hours on the dock side at Gravelines before setting off for Chartres (2 nights) then Aunac (3 ) to see Drew (OLLR and LRM magazine) and Michel and Patricia Jones, before going to Vendee to see my son and his girlfriend and stay at her parents for a couple of nights. Then off to Vitre to help move bits from his flat to his new abode 8 miles down the road with a final stop for a couple of days in Port Audemer where we encountered our first rain. Final stop was Dieppe Aire to catch the 5 am ferry to England and arrived home at lunchtime Saturday. Just under 2000 miles. Another minor water leak cured by cutting the pipe back and re fitting and also a bottom hose replaced. The constant heat (max 30 celsius) made the brakes play up and lock a couple of times. Cured by winding in the rod in the servo, although brakes are completely free, they don’t start coming on until the pedal is halfway down, which takes a bit of getting used to. Returing 30 mpg with a laden roof rack which does nothing to improve airodynamics. The steering damper I fitted before we left, as well as tightening all the sterring linkages (drag link arm at bottom of the steering box especially) vastly improved the steering in terms of “wonder” but the penalty was harder work going round roundabouts!
