Right, well this in not a question I wanted to be asking.
After finally fixing up some final things on our CA I took it out for a spin today, drove fine, lovely stuff, smooth gear changes and no other problems, so I was lookinng forward to taking it home.
However after pulling into my folk’s drive to check the oil I have now discovered that water is leaking in somewhere, quite possibly the head gasket. Not good.
So I was just wondering if it would be easier for me to get a new engine put in instead of taking it all apart and trying to find the problem. In time was hoping to get it converted to LPG or change it to deisel, but now seem like an opportunity to do that.
What I would like to know, if anyone can help, is what kind of engines fit and work in the Bedford CA 1600cc versions?
I hope someone might be able to shed a bit of light for me.
Many thanks,

I’d still be interested to find out what engines work in a CA though.

February 6, 2009 at 9:57 pm #2118Me being new to this van as well as yourself Martin, I cannot give you any advice on the engines, but what I can tell you, is that it may not be a head gasket or condensation, it could be a core plug on the side of the engine.
When I bough mine, I had to replace the radiator as the van had been standing in a lock up for more than 20 years. The radiator core was totally blocked and had to have a new one. When I pulled it outside, there was water dripping from the side of the engine. This turned out to be a core plug just behing the starter motor.
