      Hi guy,
I’m converting a RHD dormobile to a LHD (so my wife can also drive it) and I’m wondering how front seat is fixed?
I exchange the place of the 2 front seat and discover a problem :

Could someone with a LHD show me how it interface with the gearbox tunnel?

      Thanks

        Hi Loic,

        Yes, the fit is poor.

It just wasn’t designed for a left-hand drive vehicle.

I don’t have anything holding the seat down on its lefthand side (only the two bolts on the right).

OkThanks Jeremy, so it’s normal to fix only the right side on a LHD.

Well, those of us converting RHD ones to LHD haven’t had much success doing anything else. Let us know if you come up with a solution!

I see you have a 4 cylinder gearbox tunnel. The fixings fit better than that on my 6 cylinder, but I still can’t get the star knobs in. I was able to attach the plate with the threaded nuts after I filed a corner off it. If you want to avoid this slight modification, you’d have to cut off the front fixings on the driver’s seat and exchange them from left to right (note that the one in your photo is offset a bit toward the door, in the right-hand drive configuration, resulting in it being very close to the passenger seat if you swap the seats, as you can see in your photo. Mine is this way, as well, since I did not cut the seat apart but simply moved it over from right to left).

I use 5/16″ UNF bolts with standard heads in lieu of the star knobs, which I can tighten with a wrench / spanner if needed. But I usually don’t bother. None of the people who sit in my front seat are very heavy!!

Somewhere I read that there were only 8 or 12 left-hand drive Dormobiles converted at Martin Walter? The American Dormobile discussion group had some threads about the way the seats fit. None fit well! But it’s hard to know exactly which of those Dormobiles in the discussion left Martin Walter as left-hand drive, versus being converted afterward. The discussions encompassed about two dozen Dormobiles in North America, so obviously many were imported and converted to Dormobiles or to left-hand drive by their owners.
