The canvas on my bunks was ripped so I have purchased new canvas which has not yet arrived. I have removed the old ripped canvas but I can not see how the new canvas will be slipped onto the rails because it does not come apart. Can anyone help?

Hi, welcome to the forum, not sure what vehicle your putting this to , but all Dormobiles should be the same, at the ends of the poles, you will find a couple of rivits on the side of the pole about one inch from the end. This will also appear to be rivited through the material and holding a plastic ‘lug’.

The rivets need to be drilled out, ove this is done the ends of the bracket pull out from the pole, releasing the material.

Sorry if that does not make sense.

Thank you for the reply John.

The vehicle is a 1972 VW Bay.

I thought that might be the only solution but (forgive the ignorance) don’t you have to replace the rivits and, if so, how do you do that? Maybe one could replace them with something else that will be easier to remove/replace in the future.

This is my son’s van and we are doing it up together. Unfortunately, I’m not sure that I’m proving to be much help, but learning all the time!

    Many thanks.

you do have to put something back, but it does not have to be rivets. but when do think you will need to do this again, the good thing about rivets, is they last aboslutely ages, just get a cheap rivet gun from somewhere like b&q. otherwise get some stainless steel self tapping screws, make sure the thread is bigger than the hole, but not by too much, also before putting the screw in i would put a soft rubber washer on.

    Hope thisis of some use
