This is just tentative at the moment, but having recently purchased a 1963 Dormobile from Jersey the process of regaining its UK registration is getting problematic and time consuming.
Just gauging if there is sufficient demand for the parts to justify breaking, only missing the table and the lid for the cooker/sink unit. Seats worn but all there, wardrobe, good and correct bulkhead for year, chassis well protected and solid, B and C post excellent, wrong wings for years.Would consider sale of whole vehicle if somebody had time to chase the history otherwise it will go for parts to recover the costs………a crime I know, but no time now.
At some point in its history it was exported, reg cancelled, reimported and reregistered, then re-exported, re-imported to Jersey and registered……..at some point the description was incorrectly recorded as a Station wagon along with slightly incorrect chassis number. Have obtained the extract from the hand written records held at Jersey, so I suspect the error occurred prior to this.

G.
January 31, 2011 at 10:52 am #3771Thought I would throw up a few pics, I have a lot of high resolution i.e. +3mb each if anybody wants to examine individual parts. I have found the front drop down panel for the cooker, so it is complete, I see above that I mentioned the lid was missing, that was a typo error.
Overdrive fiited, new doors fitted at some point from later model with only very light surface rust on the frames.Front door tops are totally gone, not sure why a previous owner bothered to refit them.
Found some fixed penalty notices in amongst the rubbish from 1999, which refers to it as a Land Rover Reg YSY331….perhaps some new history on it.Dormobile 007.jpg[/attachment:19bbcjuu]Dormobile 003.jpg[/attachment:19bbcjuu]Dormobile 002.jpg[/attachment:19bbcjuu]January 31, 2011 at 1:00 pm #3772Graham

February 3, 2011 at 12:07 pm #3773Looks like it would be a good project for someone, shame to break it .
February 4, 2011 at 1:46 am #3774I might be interested in the entire project. Would you send me a PM @ ceking@sigmaroyalties.com

February 4, 2011 at 11:08 pm #3775HI Graham
Have you contacted Dave who is the registrations Officer with the Series 2 Club? registrations@series2club.co.uk
He may be able to help? He has sorted lots of very difficult cases. It would be sad to see the vehicle lost.
Cheers Mick

February 17, 2011 at 5:12 pm #3780Decision made……..it will be restored, so no longer for sale.
I will start a new thread on the plan for those interested in the progress.
Still can’t quite believe I have been talked into this approach 😯
February 17, 2011 at 7:13 pm #3781Hi! Congratulations for your decision!
It would be good to have a site to see your restoring process!
Mine seems a lot of parts stacked, for some time already.
A few parts missing, hard to find.
It’s not your first, but good luck!

May I suggest you now change the title to “Breaking a Dormobile? – Impossible”
Well done & Good luck,

February 18, 2011 at 12:07 pm #3783To close this particular thread, first let me apologise to those who had indicated an interest in some parts, and trust your quest for the missing bits is satisfied soon.
I had a second and third inspection executed and the opinions from a couple of guys who have a vastly superior knowledge of Series vehicles than I could ever hope to attain, and as a result they have confirmed the vehicle is in far better condition than I was giving it credit for.I admit to judging the book by the cover, apparently wrongly. 😳
I will create a blog or similar to record the rebuild schedule……..and to wet the appetite……first pass of the proposal is looking at 10 working days for a body off rebuild, engine transplant, paint job and MOT……..starting at Easter. Yes it will be a cheque book rebuild, but time is my enemy and I think I have found the right bunch of local companies to pull this off.
More information nearer the time.
February 18, 2011 at 1:30 pm #3784Sounds like you’ve made the right decision 😀 and look forward to some progress reports. I’d be interested to hear about your 200tdi conversion too, did you do the conversion ?? any pitfalls along the way ?? do’s + don’ts ??
I’m hopefully collecting my newly purchased dormobile at the end of the month 😀 , it involves a long overnight train journey and a couple of days to drive it home. Fingers crossed it will perform with no dramas.
