Betsy Does …………… Road Trip

Last Friday (17th June 2011) we set out for a Road Trip in Betsy, our 1966 Bedford CA Dormobile.
We set out from Skegness and headed South towards Beaulieu Motor Museum.
We trundled along at 50-55mph all the way down to just past Southampton (just off the M271 on the A35), in the pouring rain, where we decided we would stop in the layby for the night. Good thought…..bad idea! ‘JUST OFF’ the M271 with Lorries, Cars and General traffic all night! After a couple of hours sleep we set off again and arrived a Beaulieu Motor Museum at 6am (it doesn’t open till 10 ) so we decided to have some breakfast and a cuppa
We spent some time looking round the motor museum and Beaulieu House. They wouldn’t allow us to stay the night in the car park so we decided to travel down to Lymington. Arriving in Lymington we set up on a quiet side street and hit the town….we had a great night and found the people of Lymington very friendly.
Sunday morning we set out and headed to Bognor Regis and headed straight for the nearest swimming baths, had a good swim and ‘shower’ then found another nice quiet side road to set up for the night.
Again on our travels…Monday morning heading along to Worthing, another side road and a quiet night .
Tusday morning brings the trip to Brighton. We parked up on the seafront and a had a stroll round for the day. Come night time we moved Betsy a little way down the Prom and headed out for a few beers, another good night .
Having completed the places we wanted to go we decided to head back ‘Up North’ and stop some where on the journey home. We headed north and stopped at Bishop Stortford had a wander round and a meal in a pub but the weather was abismal so we decided to make the rest of the journey home.
In all from start to finish ‘BETSY’ took us 668 miles from Skegness along the South Coast and back home
