I use our Debonair through the year but the heater’s rubbish in the winter. The water temp gauge climbs to neat half way in the summer but only up to the C at this time of year. Anyone fitted a radiator blind and found the heater a bit warmer?

        Hi,
I would check the engine thermostat, the top hose / radiator should remain cold until the temperature gauge shows nearly half way. If during warmup the heater hoses and the top hose get hot together the thermostat is either stuck open, opens early or maybe missing.
        Hope that helps.

This was typical of older cars, however I suspect not many people run their CA’s in winter.
A Combination of cold air, and a fan that runs all the time, will make the van run cold.
The heater isn’t very good anyway – Piece of hardboard covering half the radiator will do the trick in winter.

Thanks, Guys. My Morris Minor heater warms up quickly without a radiator blind, but I’m going to try that on the CA anyway. Since the temp never gets to anywhere near half way anyway in winter unless I’m stuck in a lengthy traffic jam, there might be something in the thermostat being missing or stuck open. I’ll do a test on the top hose warming up this weekend.
            Cheers.
