Since getting her on the road have knocked up 400 miles, so far so good, the rebuilt engine is performing well and slackening off, thats the good news. The downside however is to do with the current heatwave we are having, the large amount of glass in the vehicle and the Exmoor seat kit, which in combination is making anything but a short trip a ‘moist’ experience!……..have slept in it for one night (in driveway) and to be honest am in no rush to repeat the experiment until I can resolve the ventilation or air movement issues. The intention is for long term use in Europe, so the problem has to be resolved……….did wonder if this problem was connected to my other post about the sudden and serious onset of mould/mildew in the vehicle.
So cutting long story short, am investigating options to install either Red Dot, Waeco or Dometic 12 volt AC unit into the vehicle………has anyone here done similar, or knows of someone who has and any problems to be taken into account?
Max weight of these units is 18kg for the largest, so some strengthening of cab roof required, and they are of non-condensing type so no need for water drain lines.

July 5, 2009 at 8:55 pm #2441Hi Gramor
Sorry, cannot help with the AC. My Dormobile has that many holes in the canopy that lack of ventilation is not an issue.
Just like to say, good looking Dormobile. Well done.
Cheers Mick
July 7, 2009 at 4:17 pm #2442Hi Gramor,
I also wanted to say it’s sad you can’t use the Dormobile as you wanted because of the mildew/mold. I don’t have any experience with that, being a relatively new owner, though it could happen to me here since we get fuzzy pink mold in our stuff in the cellar in the house. I also have holes in my canopy like Jabbawocky, so maybe that ventilates it enough! Can you park it with the windows and roof vent open?Very nice looking truck, though. I like the cream/limestone roof with that green. How did you apply the paint?

July 7, 2009 at 6:09 pm #2443On advice from a local supplier of marquee tents have wiped over internal and external canopy surfaces with diluted bleach solution and left to dry. This guy swears it works for his tents and they frequently get stuffed away for months at a time whilst still wet and no problem with mould/mildew……..time will tell.
I will certainly be using it, just not with grandson in tow until all signs of mildew are gone, have plans to go to Newark show 16/17th July with it.
Body paint (Eastnor Green) was applied just with regular spray, the roof (Limestone) was done with roller, but is one of the list of things to be redone just as soon as time permits……..but looks like the AC option will move down the wishlist quite a distance, cheapest price so far quoted is £2000. 😥
July 7, 2009 at 9:40 pm #2444Hi Gramor,
I too find your dormobile beautiful, well done!
The curtains look orangeish on the picture, Is it so, are they original?
No ventilation issues either nor mildew on mine. She sleeps in a garage windows open, may be it helps
Good luck and safe journey
MarcJuly 8, 2009 at 3:39 am #2445Hi Marc, unfortunately the curtains are not the originals but a mid 1970’s replacement. I was not going to reinstall them at first due to a few small holes but decided to hang them anyway, thinking that it would be good to use them as a template for new ones. The strange thing is the combination of orange, yellow and gold stripes actually works well with the green bodywork……….looks right for the period.
August 12, 2009 at 5:29 am #2446I know this doesn’t necessarily help you with a roof top unit, but someone local to me has a Dormobile fitted with the Land Rover factory approved NormalAir system. Here’s a couple of pics of the controls, and the bulge in the bonnet that covers the evaporator, the evaporator housing. The headlights are moved from the radiator support to the front of the wings to clear the condensor.
