Hi Dan,
I have my seat out (rebuilding the gearbox) so it’s theoretically an easy time to photograph my runners and measure them up for you. It’s a question of shuffling some things around to get access. This blanket box is another surprise from Martin Walter. So many (uninformed) people ask me if I did the Dormobile modifications, myself. And I’m almost offended by the extent to which they underestimate the craftsmanship and thought in the design; the Martin Walter people were so clever. I couldn’t have pulled this off, myself, and for someone to casually think it’s a DIY is a bit insulting to the car!
But I wonder if this box would even fit with the sixpot engine? The gearbox is 4″ further back. Can’t look until I have mine together again.

April 27, 2013 at 1:51 pm #4667For the first time in years the Dormobile has a full compliment of seats!! The original owner found the runners (actually found the missing seat as well, so I will soon have a spare!!) and I have now fitted them and the seat. I am well chuffed, it is so comfy, the only issue being that it is now a bit of a tight squeeze to fit me in compared to the standard SW seat where I had tons of room. I will probably see if Exmoor will make me just a drivers seat cover so I can do the spare seat as well and then reunite the original with the Land Rover (sentimental I know). There is a horrible step between the height of the front and rear seats when in the bed position, this is with extra padding!!!

That’s great! Did your original owner tell you what he carried in the blanket box?I actually took the photos of the runners today for you, coincidentally.
The lever on the runners should let you scoot the seat backward about 1″ more than a standard seat and get some room that way?
I’m curious whether your seat cushion is removable? I think I was told that the early driver seats had a removable cushion. Mine aren’t removable: the whole seat has to come out to get at what’s beneath (for example my battery in the sixpot LHD).
Yes the seats don’t match up so well when folded down into a bed. It’s a common complaint!! We all have our remedies. Mine is: sleep upstairs!!

April 27, 2013 at 7:46 pm #4669The replacement seat certainly doesn’t have a removable cushion Jeremy, it is a seat out job to get to the gas!! I have the original Martin Walters instructions and it states that you have to take the seat out, so it must have been a very early option!! I will check the original seat when I get it, it is currently still on the Isle of Bute (google it), not the easiest place to pop over to!!
I think my room issue is due to the height of the Dormi seat compared to the standard SW one, I note (well after I recovered it anyway) it is a lot higher than the one I just removed. As a six footer I sense the reduction in gap between steering wheel and legs!! I have to say though, it is so comfy after the seat I just removed, will go for a drive tomorrow for fun!!
