Anyone had experience with changing out the Zenith for a Weber? I have no problems with the Zenith but I’ll be doing a fair amount of mileage in the van and any extra mpg would always be welcome.
They are supposed to be better, the zeniths are cr*p, the spindles wear, they leak petrol and are generally troublesome.
You could always have hardended valve seats and convert to lpg if you are intending doing a lot of mileage, your carb would be redundant then (apart from starting from cold)
From the little info I have found about the conversion (generally from Series Landy sites) it seems they can drop on with little fettling. Obviously one would have to acquire a carb that was jetted for a Bedford rather than a 2.5ltr Landy. There sounds like there is an improvement on fuel economy and also in small gain in power. The only problems I’ve heard of are block jets and fuel drillings but this is more applicable to the off-road crowd as the Debonair probably won’t find itself up to its axles in muck anytime soon.
I’ve rebuilt my Zenith recently so i’ll stick with it this year but will probably keep an eye open for a Weber over the winter. With regards to the LPG, I don’t to do anything to the van that isn’t simple to put back to original spec but it is tempting.
Hi,
I replaced the Zenith Carb. for a Weber about 15 years ago and have had no problems with it. Minor changes to the throttle linkage and a sleeve for the air cleaner were needed. Numbers from the carb are 34 ICT 3-350. Hope that helps. There is a little more info. on a previous post i made.
