Hi all,
I am currently looking to get a bedford CA dormobile Debonair, I want to be doing a full restoration on it so condition isn’t too important. I have a maximum budget of about £1000 for a project van but I would rather spend less than that. I would also consider a Utilivan if someone could sell me some Dormatic seats to go with it.
Cheers Will

DaveAugust 18, 2011 at 7:49 pm #4365I really did want to get yours, but I didn’t have the necessarily storage for it.
I do appreciate what you say, I have been looking on Ebay and a couple have come up, but recently I’ve been pretty tight on money. Thankfully both of these things have now changed and I am on the lookout good and proper.
😀
August 18, 2011 at 9:24 pm #4366The debonairs are cheaper than the standard van conversions for some reason.
As it’s made of fibreglass you won’t need to be as handy with a welder (although they do have metal underneath the fiberglass at the front end)
They come up occasionally on ebay, basket cases for £500 – You would need to spend at least another £1000 to bring it back to life – thats doing all the work yourself.August 20, 2011 at 8:11 pm #4362I may have a basket case Debonair if you’re interested.
August 21, 2011 at 10:39 am #4367I do rather like the look of debonairs what are is the height and width of one ?
Do you have any pictures of the one in question Olly ?
August 22, 2011 at 8:11 pm #4368They are about 8 ft 6 high I think and 6ft wide. They’re either 12 or 14ft long, can’t remember exactly. Ours is a non-runner and would require a full resto. I can send you a picture, it looks alot worse than it is aesthetically. I’ll have to talk to my girlfriend before i say anything for definite becasue we may keep it and restore it over the winter. I could probably provide spare gearbox, front axel and a NOS block including rods, crank, pistons etc.
Look at this link and scroll back until you find the blue Debonair. You can get an idea of what work is involved by seeing what we have done to our van.August 23, 2011 at 7:21 pm #4369I will have to check the height to see if I can get it down the garden, if not then its a no goer. Sorry.
It sounds like a good project though, fingers crossed regarding the height.
August 30, 2011 at 8:36 pm #4370It’s nay problem either way, we still may restore it ourselves. I think I’ll get it removed from the garden it is in before Autumn so it will then make it’s way down to Somerset to join it’s sister.
August 31, 2011 at 2:01 pm #4371There’s another camper restoration project for sale on eBay at the moment. Lots of tinworm, but probably no worse than mine was before restoration.
It can be done, but it’s going to require lots of new metal…October 10, 2011 at 10:52 am #4372There is one on ebay at the moment – I would guess at £500 – £600 max

Low initial value but requiring lots of time ( which I have plenty of ) and money ( less off ) I need too keep my eyes peeled on Ebay. I am taking my driving test soon so this will mean I will be able to scoot around looking at Bedfords which I haven’t previously been able to do.
This one looks quite good, although I suspect the reserve is placed very high.
November 27, 2011 at 11:20 am #4374This just got relisted due to time wasters. It sold for just over £800 last time, maybe you could offer them that and get the auction to end early?
