I want to put a small gasoline (petrol) heater in the Dormobile.
Does anyone have a favorite place for locating one? I want to cut a minimum number of holes in my Landy.
The blower’s inlet air has to be located so it doesn’t suck in exhaust from the heater; i.e. there should be a wall between it and the combustion end of the unit. The other issue is that the hot air is apparently REALLY hot and shouldn’t blow on things that can melt.
I was thinking of putting it on top of the passenger footwell under the bonnet, the Series 3 location, with the hot air coming through the unused hole for the steering column on the passenger side bulkhead. This hole isn’t big enough for both inlet and outlet air. But I don’t want a Series 3-type heater air inlet hole in the a wing … how to solve the air intake problem? I do have a six-cylinder bulkhead, meaning that I could drill the rivets out of the upper plate from the footwell and replace it with a custom plate with the desired air inlet/outlet holes for my heater.
I have also seen a photo of such a heater mounted on the inside the top of the passenger footwell, both air inlet and outlet being inside the vehicle and combustion exhaust being in the engine bay.
Or in the toolbox under the cooker?
Or on the rear wheel housing in that slot under the wardrobe?
??
Thanks!

March 31, 2011 at 12:14 pm #1368Can’t really advise as we don’t need heaters here 😆 although we did go camping one winter and it was a bit chilly. I’m thinking along the lines of how to fit air con into mine at some point.
March 31, 2011 at 7:21 pm #1369Collecting a used Eberspächer BL1 tomorrow so we’ll see how big it is and where it might fit!
1800W of heat. It’ll be like a little hair dryer, nice!
I’d like to have anything I do be reversible, so swapping out the plate on the bulkhead footwell for a custom one sounds the best bet so far.

We took our first trip this weekend to test it. It does work, and the exhaust doesn’t get into the Land Rover.
A year ago I thought the idea was exaggerated. The stove would heat the interior, I thought. But when it’s cold, the gas doesn’t flow, and you can’t light the stove! And kids can’t jump around while water is boiling on the stove. The Eberspacher makes breakfast much easier for my kids.
I got the unit used from Swiss Army surplus for 200 CHF and I put another 150 CHF spare parts into it to be sure it’s safe and reliable.
So far I just use the starter battery and it’s no great load.
