I’m about to embark on Dormobile adventure and I was wondering if any of you experts could shed some light as to whether I’m mad or not! I’ve seen a vehicle on ebay (I’m sure so have a lot of people here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110397750960&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123) and I’m thinking of bidding. The thing is that I have never dabbled with vehicles before. I’m a true novice…but not afraid of some hard work and getting my hands dirty. So, my question is, does anyone think that this is too big a project for a first timer, and 2nd can you offer me some pearls of wisdom into what I should expect when fixing this beauty up for a lifetime on the road?
You should always try and see a vehicle before thinking about buying, it may look pretty on the outside, but could be totally rusted on the inside, only a poke with a screwdriver will tell you this. If it rusted then you will need to weld, and be able to do metal work, or have deep pockets. Sometimes its better to spend £3000 on a restored vehicle with a history than £1000 on a dog which then needs a further £3000 spending to make it look like a restored vehicle!!!
Sorry Sam, just seen your post, did you buy it then?
Jonny is right though, it’s best to see the vehicle in the flesh so to speak, before you buy. Although I got a good buy with my van (E-bay) there were still a few things the seller had left out of his listing, like it needing a new radiator before I could use it, which cost £110 😡
Unfortunately I didn’t get this one. I chickened out right at the last moment. I’m very happy to get my hands dirty when it comes to fixing up most things, but when it comes to engines I think I get cold feet. So, if anyone has a Dormobile out there that is in search of a new home then let me know as I wanna join the party!
