hi,can anyone tell me if you are supposed to have to pull the knob on end of gear stick to get into reverse, mine goes on its own and a bit worried of getting reverse instead of 3rd ,any advice would be appreciated,Rod
Hi Rod You should have to pull out the knob to find reverse . Pull out the knob ,lift up towards the steering wheel and push away towards the windscreen . If yours is dodgy you might find 1st but 3rd seems too far away as you should be pushing down towards the floor for 3rd .I had to overhaul my linkage as I could not find 3 + 4 + reverse . I think you have a poblem in the piviot joint at the top of the steering colum
Jim
thanks Jim,i hav’nt driven it on the road yet, been doing the bodywork for last 6 months, would help if i knew position of gearstick for each gear as i pressumed it was same as modern gearbox, cheers Rod
Pulling the knob is only a security. I have broken my gearlever and replace it with a simple rod, going into reverse is only a question of pulling the linkage rod upper than on 1st-2nd gear and it’s hard enough to prevent going into reverse by mistake.
The various positions are simple
Push toward the engine and up is 3, down is 4
Pull toward the driver and up is 1, down is 2
Pull further toward the driver with knob pulled and up is reverse
Think of me breaking the famous gear lever while trying to get into reverse in a dead end and we will both laugh! 😉
