    Hey,

Does anyone know where I can get a pair of those latches that hold the roof down on the outside, for reasonable money? Either that or a suitable alturnative? Ive found few online and im not sure whether they’re suitable.

    Many thanks,
    H

    Hi

Dormobile ltd sell stainless steel ones, not sure what they are like but from experience they are a more secure option than the rubber ones.

      Hi H

Dormobile used several types of latch. Do you have a picture of your?

I bought mine from ebay . They are exactly the same as the ones Dormobile UK sell, but a fraction of the price. I fabricated the base plate from the end of a tub “beam”

Would help to know what yours are like as I reckon Dormobile used whatever was around at the time, so they do vary.

I think Alex means the metal over-centre catches like these:

            http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-LOCKABLE-OVER-CENTRE-CATCH-STAINLESS-MEDIUM-TRAILER-/380316994062?pt=UK_Trailers_Transporters_Parts&hash=item588ca8ca0e

The ones fitted by Dormobile to modern conversions are in stainless steel, (not zinc plated – also available on ebay at about half the price) and come complete with the stand-off baseplates and locking pins. They also come with a modified top hook with a backing plate, which relieves the stress on the fibreglass.I think they’re still available – but … around 30GBP! They ARE more secure, especially on modern conversions, which don’t have the 2 interior safety straps originally fitted, and have the advantage of being adjustable.

My earlier post was about the rubber straps, as fitted to my late, lamented 109! :

            Hey all,

It was those last ones that I was trying to find but hopefully in stainless.

My roof is off what I think a 1960s land rover (I have no definate idea) as all I bought was the roof and Im in the process of converting/repairing it so that it can go on my 1995 110 CSW.

I had seen the rubber ones and if I couldnt find the other ones they were an option.

            Many thanks,
            H

These are the ones I used – although maybe the next size up. The spacer plate to go under the roof – at the top of the side panel to get over the gutter, I made from a cut off section of tub.

              Hope this helps

                Hi Alex

                What on earth is :

                section of tub

                ?

Looks like Yorkshire for “top hat section” ? !!!

Got side tracked after loading the picture!!!

It is the top hat section of steel which supports the tub.

                  Cheers Ant 🙂

                    HI Alex

By the look of those holes, your roof was originally held down by leather/webbing straps and buckles, like Barney?

My 69 IIA (above) also had webbing straps and buckles originally. Looks like the ‘standard’ fitting (if you can say that of Martin-Walter!) for around that time?
