      Hi,
      Can anyone help point me in the right direction. Our new 1966 Debonaire just won’ t run properly. Spark plugs black and sooty, spark looks weak, though blue in colour,( and dancing around on the head of an extracted spark plug.) New condenser and rotor arm cap fitted but haven’t found a set of late type contact breakers yet. Van seems to run better if choke pulled out. Any ideas greatfully received.

      Regards,

        Yes, old petrol can do this, and the Zenith Carbs give poor running (especially if it’s been stood a while)

        Poss get a service kit for the carb and give it a good clean. Could be a blocked jet or drilling ? You could also try getting a can of aggressive carb/ choke cleaner, removing the air filter and spraying it down the carb inlet whilst engine running/ turning over. This may help clear any blockages and dissolve stale petrol.

        In terms of the CB, I have a spare from my ’65 you are welcome too. I personally fitted one of these, it seems to be very good so far;
