Having cleared a backlog of tasks and work commitments getting in the way, the very last restoration of a vehicle I will ever, ever, ever be involved in is soon to begin.
The vin plate 28200217A is correct for year, the problem has been the hand written extract of Jersey Transport and Technical Services Department from 1984 when it was registered in Jersey. They have recorded a chassis number of 93401501A which according to Calvin records is a 12 seat LHD Series III. Unfortunately the dumb hanger has been damaged at some point and we are unable to make out anything other than 2???021???.They also recorded the former Uk registration as YXC 934K. It’s history prior to this is not documented but the seller had been informed it was on and off the UK register a couple of times in it’s life. Anybody recognise it?
Despite the wrong wings and front panel, possibly fitted after collision damage, i.e. the evidence of damage to front hanger, which is still wrinkled and deformed. (it has I believe the correct flat front apron) the interior screams original, wire spoke steering wheel, individual wipers, windscreen securing mounts, and apart from the addition of some PO enhancements looks correct, but hopefully a Series Vehicle Forum inspection soon should confirm this.
Next stage is transfer to the workshop for the final bits of detective work to get engine, gearbox, axle numbers, window glass markings and component part serial numbers as part of the verification of identity with view to reregistering with UK age related number.
This small problem has though delayed the planned schedule of restoration, but for good technical reasons, last thing I want is to end up on a Q plate.
I trust you’ll post pics and give a running report of the restoration, it will be a good reference for when I start mine 😀
I’m just thankful that mine has none of the dreaded tin worm and that it will be more of a “cosmetic makeover” compared to a full rebuild.
