      Hi

My names Pete and I am the proud owner of a VW 1971 early bay Dormobile camper. I have always wanted one of these and finally own one! It is a lovely shade of light green and cream white.

I have started to give it the love and care it deserves. I have purchased some new German headlining material and replaced the badly ripped headlining and re covered the sun visors in the same material. I have also installed led lights in the headlining, led spots In the interior sides and back. I forked out for an auxiliary battery and installed a split charger, 240v inverter and 12v sockets. I found this great fun to do. I also found some really cheap solar panels, which I have hooked up to the electrics (the panels are removable and only get put on when parked up).

It is currently in the garage having some panels replaced and a complete re-spray. I have had to buy a new canopy and glass for the top, which they are going to fit for me.

The two bunk beds were in a terrible state. The tartan material was rotten and the mechanisms on both were rusted solid. I have managed to free up the mechanisms and am looking to buy some suitable replacement material so I can make some new bunks. Does anyone know how to refit the material and also fix the bunks back on to the van? They were off completely when I purchased it.

I am really glad that there is a site like this where I can be in touch with like minded owners of these wonderful Campervan’s!

If anyone has any ideas on how to improve these vans or what to look after maintenance wise I would appreciate any feedback.

      All the best

      Pete
