Hi, I’ve just come aboard this forum. I have a very batterered MK1. It’s a Martin Walker conversion but doesn’t say ‘Dormobile’ on the conversion plate. I don’t have a registration number for it yet, though it does have it’s chassis number. I am finding it very difficult to find any source of original records. It is on 16″ wheels and from the chassis number history I’ve found, I reckon it to be 1956/57 it is a ‘Utilicon’ model with seats folding out from the floor. It is pre lifting roof.
Aside from this I need quite a lot of parts. Mainly side glass. I would be prepared to put in just about anything for the time being. I also need a couple of 16″ wheels.
Any advice or information would be helpful. I see from reading the forum that you are a knowledgable lot.

The Utilicon was not a motor caravan, more of a minibus. Unfortunately spares are thin on the ground, expecially for the dormobile conversion. However most of it is so simple they can be re-made. Best source of parts seems to be ebay, although Adrian Bailey http://www.roverland.eu can supply parts (although his prices are usually so high, he is a last resort)

I know I’m not a proper Dormobile but I am a genuine Martin Walker..! (Why do I feel Like David Cameron in Europe.)
Thanks for you response I enjoy my Bedford ownership enormously; even the hunt for parts and history

It’s also worth trying Peter Dobbs. He aslo trades on eBay but I’m not sure of his username. I have his number somewhere, I’ll try and dig it out.

Martin Walter and Dormobile are the same company. Dormobile was a trade name, but so successful the company was renamed – so it is a genuine dormobile.
Peter Dobbs ebay name is 1967ca, his email address is peterdobbs@ntlworld.com I know he hasn’t any glass tho – mainly mechanical spares he keeps (in his loft !!)
