Does anyone know of a conversion from the Lucas item to a modern solid state regulator/ recifier? I have done this on all my British motorcycles with great success and was wondering if it would be possible to do on my CA. Any thoughts?

I’m already negative earth and I had assumed this was factory but maybe it was a conversion by a previous owner. I have a 1965 Debonair. I’ve been thinking about this alternator conversion and I may go for it. Anyone done it before?

have a look at trissh question
    about converting to negative earth
hope that will give you the info you need
    if not just ask

Thanks for that. If the Dynamo isn’t up to the job then I will go for an alternator but if not it’s a case of ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’

With regards to the regulator, it seems it is cheap enough (around £15) to get a new RB340 for these vans so I think I’ll just carry a spare. I also intend to move it front it’s current location so it doesn’t get rained on.

I converted mine with an old Alternator off an Audi, It made a hell of a difference on starting up periodically. I would recommend doing it. the hardest part was selecting the right sized fan belt

    Good Luck
