Hi everyone, I’m still here, but been spending most of my spare time trying to get my van ready for the summer. (See the link below in my signature, for progress photos 😀 )
I’ve noticed that my fuel gauge isn’t working, well I say isn’t working, it is, but it reads full all the time. I have no idae how much petrol is in the tank. How do I get to the sender, is there an inspection cover in the floor, or will I have to take the tank out? 🙁
April 25, 2009 at 1:28 pm #2273Hi
I have troble with my gauge (or rather sender) .I have no inspection cover so had to remove the tank. It is only fixed with 3 bolts , but the 2 rubber hoses (inlet and Vent) had to be cut off . The 2″ fuel rubber was quite pricey to replace – don’t use water pipe . My gauge will only read down to 1/3 then will not go down any more even though the sender is at the bottom of its travel .It will go to zero when ignition is off . There must be a universal sender that will fit but I will live with mine for a bit.Let me know if you find a suitable replcement.
JimApril 25, 2009 at 2:32 pm #2274I thought I wouldn’t get away with an easy option… 😆 I have had to take the inlet rubber off already as I had to remove the filler pipe from the body so I could repair the 1/4 panel. Why shouldn’t I be using water pipe? ❓ [attachment=0:2nia672r]Filler Cap.jpg[/attachment:2nia672r]

April 25, 2009 at 6:30 pm #2276Ohh, we don’t want that then, do we. Where would I get a new filler to inlet hose from, anyone know, as I’m in fairly desperate need of one now. 😕
April 25, 2009 at 7:04 pm #2277I got mine from Inracing 0115 979 1009 part no 451-5730 51mm filler hose £8.50 for 6″ + vat + p&p .I also got the rubber vent pipe connector and one or two other bits and before you know it it was up to £28
JimApril 25, 2009 at 7:08 pm #2278I found a second hand big hose for free in a scrapyard out of a 4×4 Toyota. The vent hose came from the same “source”
Not so many cars use that kind of “flexible technology” nowadays but maybe classic car parts dealers such as MG or Land Rover specialists might have the suitable size.April 25, 2009 at 11:40 pm #2279hi mine is the same. reading full i have checked the sender unit and its ok .i have just ordered a new fuel gauge as i think its that i shall let you now when i get it and fit it . you can check the gauge without removing the tank just undo the bolt on the o/s and drop it remove the wires of the tank. the is a complete set of gauge with the capiliry water sensor in it on ebay its expensive at £70.00 but you can not get better. hope this helps dave
April 26, 2009 at 6:05 am #2280To check the gauge remove the wire from the sender ,switch on ignition and the gauge should read empty , then connect this wire to a good earth and it should read full . If your gauge is normally reading full it could be the wire is earthing somewhere.

Thanks for the replies lads, I think I’ll just order a new hose during the week and let you know how I get on. 😀
