Could someone please tell me how high a Dormobile is?
I need to tell a freight company for them to give me a quote for shipping a Dormobile that I have just made an offer for.
Will provide details and introduce myself properly if/when the deal comes off
Wish me luck!
Roger
June 24, 2012 at 7:40 am #48192.3m . When you say shipping, will that actually involve a ship, or are you looking for a man with a trailer / transporter?
If the latter (and you are in the UK or France), try Pat 07766954166. He picked up my Dormobile from Scotland and delivered it safe and sound to me in West yorkshire. Good price too.
June 24, 2012 at 11:53 am #4820Thanks Alex
I’m talking transport from South Australia to Tasmania – road and sea – so yes.
Don’t suppose Pat has a cousin out this way?
Cheers
Roger

June 25, 2012 at 9:00 am #4821Hi Roger,
Is this the one ??? Looks like you may have beaten me to it 🙂 A six cylinder with original winch. It looks to be in great shape and I was told it has no rust. This is a great advantage of an aussie vehicle, I look forward to hearing from you if indeed you are the new owner.June 25, 2012 at 11:02 am #4822Afraid so, jerryd
Still making arrangements for transport and haven’t seen it in the flesh yet, but very excited.
A few mysteries to solve when I get it home – will post more pics then.
Looking forward to being part of this special society

June 29, 2012 at 11:37 pm #4823Congratulations on the purchase, there seems to be a few of them about over here.
I hope that the “no rust” story holds true for you, as i got the same line on a car I’ve just purchased and have had to replace the rear cross member, front dumb irons, repair L/H chassis rail behind shock, both A pillars and foot wells.
It’s now all done but what a shock, as none of this was apparent on a visual inspection.
Good luck.
Kind regards
Bill

Delivery is probably still a week away, so lots of time to worry about what I might find.
Glad you persevered with yours – would love to see some photos.
Not sure how many Dormobiles made it to Australia, or how many still exist.
I am aware of at least 4 through Land Rover forums, ebay etc. Was there ever a register?
Roger
June 30, 2012 at 1:16 pm #4825I know of six in the flesh (including your two) and a rumour of two more tucked away, there was another that got shipped to america a few years back. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were one or two more tucked away in sheds 🙂
Maybe we could get a gathering of aussie dormobiles in the near future, now that would be a rare sight 😀
July 1, 2012 at 1:13 am #4826That would be excellent – where are you blokes?
I’m in Tassie, but could see an interstate trip to a big Landy event in the future.
Bill – I’ve made the connection now with your ‘another aussie dormobile’ thread – fascinating vehicle. Would be keen to hear what you find out about it’s history, and how the restoration is going.
Jerryd – would love to see some pics of yours.
Cheers

July 1, 2012 at 8:38 am #4827I’m about 50 kilometers north west of Brisbane out in the sticks 😀 I took the dormobile down to the Sydney “Land Rover Expo” last year and to my surprise got best “camper in show” trophy 😯
I’m hoping to have the dormobile ready for the next heritage event which will probably be 2014 – http://www.olrhd.com.au/
This is a great event according to friends who have taken part.I’m about to embark on putting a 300 tdi diesel motor into my dormobile, at present it has a holden 186 which is great but way too thirsty. I’m also hoping to fit the air con unit into it along with a few more upgrades. I’m not concerned about keeping it 100% original as I want to use it for what it was intended 🙂
There should be a few pics of it here on the forum, it was very tatty when I purchased it as it had been sabotaged by some un savoury characters. I’ve done heaps of work on it but I still have lots to do. At present I’m carrying out seat box modifications, bigger under seat storage and soundproofing. Just put it back in vehicle for final fit and testing and am really surprised how much quieter it is.
My email is Riley9spec@bigpond.com if you want to drop me a line anytime.

July 16, 2012 at 11:38 am #4830Good to hear from you, Bill
Great news you’ll have your truck back soon. Mine is supposed to arrive on a truck Wednesday, registered.
I’m about 3 years and half way through rebuilding a series 1, so very excited at the prospect of having a Landy I can actually DRIVE.
I look forward to sharing more news, picturs and questions when we both actually have them on the road.
Cheers
