    Hi all,

First of all may I thank the Admin for letting me on the forum!

Secondly, after missing one about four years ago and kicking myself ever since, I have just purchased a 1967 S11(ish) Dormobile!

It is in need of a full restoration and is bare inside from the Dormatic seats back but looks to be a nice project! I don’t collect it until the tenth of November and have not seen it in the flesh yet but guessed it was worth a gamble.

Hope to use it to pull my racecars to Goodwood and other meetings (very slowly) and then just to spend a few days away in it throughout the year with Wife and Dog! A lot of work in the meantime to get it back to its correct specification but I hope to ‘run and restore’ over the next few months.

I’ll try to keep you informed of how it’s going if anyone is interested.

    Regards,

    Martyn

        HI and Welcome

Barney was also without the cooker unit and wardrobe when I got her. Found the cooker unit on Ebay and made the wardrobe myself.

Took two years to restore Barney, but definitely worth it. We use ours for family weekends away and for our main holidays abroad. Not sure where she will take us next year, but the Alps and Italian Lakes are a possibility.

Don’t be afraid to ask if you need help.

Just before she was brought home in 2007.

Family holiday May 2011 to Morocco with friends

Posing for LRO magazine August 2011

Hope these help, especially if your good lady is not as convinced restoring a Dormobile is a good idea

        Cheers Mick

Thanks Alex, to be honest I wish I had rescued one years ago!

Hi Michel, very kind of you to say so! I shall get some pictures up next weekend when I collect the Land Rover. I have not raced at Goodwood myself but look after cars for other people. Ian Ashley, Tony Jardine and John Cleland are a few you may have heard of. Usually in Jaguars although Ian was in an LDS Grand Prix car. I do hold an international race licence and ran the race school at Mallory Park for a few years, that is why I now want to slow down with the Dormobile! I have a few race cars (Fraser Imp, FIA MGB, 63 E type, Jag D Type rep, 71 Stingray, Morris Minor rally car and an ex works Metro R6 GTi) that it can pull so I will have to put very small pictures up! Funny thing is, after all the time in fast cars I am really looking forward to slowing down and seeing life – a cup of tea in Snowdonia, night on a beach in Scotland, a few weeks on the continent etc. All things I hope the new toy will bring!

Mick, great pictures and your comment at the end certainly made Adelle (the wife, not the singer) laugh! It is strange really but my plans seem to emulate what you have done exactly – maybe it is a LR Dormobile thing, it is the same dreams and adventure that drives us all to get one! Interestingly, we had planned it to be Limestone but Adelle thinks that the colour of yours is better – influenced already!

I will have more than a few questions for everyone so thank you all very much for posting back with your views, it is nice to know that help is there when needed.

        Regards,

        Martyn Astley
