Just spent a lifetime on the phone to Footman James, trying tp get a quote for my 109 Dormobile.
They knew nothing about Dormobiles, think that Bedford and VW are “proper” Dormobiles and won’t recognise Land ROver variants, even when told that they were factory approved conversions. The lad I spoke to is called Martin Malleon and his supervisor David Brooks
Any thoughts folks?
A very frustrating 30 mins
June 28, 2010 at 8:35 pm #3207Hi this subject came up on another clubs forum, I checked with Footman James last Friday and was told my Landrover Dormobile was insured with no exceptions.
I specifically asked that they doble check as this is a camper conversion and that other people appear to be having difficulty, the answer was still that all was okay.
I suggest you go back and explain that they already have many LR Dormobiles on their books and that there is no reason not to cover the vehicle.

I have a multi vehicle policy with Footman James and had no problems insuring Barney with them? I have not rung them as it is far too close to my holiday. It clearly states on my certificate of insurance “Land Rover 109″ Dormobile”.

June 30, 2010 at 9:20 am #3209£121.80 with equity red star 😆 – limited to 5000 miles.
That will do till I sell the 110 dormobile and swap the insurance over.
July 7, 2010 at 12:32 pm #3210Unless you specifically want to go with FJ for cost reasons etc and having an inkling of what you may wish to do in the future then it might be worth giving the NFU a ring.
I have Bea with them for the much enhanced cover they provide including enhanced cover for the Continent and Africa at no extra cost. You will find that FJ and many other so called Land Rover or Classic Car specialists will not provide a Green Card for Morocco, the NFU is one of very few insurers that still do.
The benefits of having insurance in place before crossing into Africa cannot be understated, gettin insurance in country is often difficult and not now routinely available at the entry border crossings, if you manage to blag your way through on the promise of getting insurance in the first big town you arrive at it will be difficult to find, expensive and of questionable use, travelling without the piece of paper will make you very vulnerable to ‘fines’ at the regular roadside police checks, not to mention the consequences of injury or damage to a local without even nominal cover which will see all parties locked up in the local police station for a few days whilst it is all sorted out.
Having proper cover from a reputable insurer brings a lot of piece of mind on Moroccan roads!Phil

I have got insurance with RH for the moment.
As soon as the 109 is all shipshape and I have sold the 110 Dormobile, I shall swap the 109 to the 110 (all with NFU)June 6, 2011 at 4:20 pm #3212JUst thought I would try FJ again in case things had changed – they haven’t
To be a camper it has to have fixed running water, a permanent 6 foot bed and a couple of other things I can’t remember. All you who have Dormobiles insured with them “must have lied” according to the young lad I spoke to!!
So I won’t be insuring with them, again.
They also didn’t recognise any deal with DOrmobile Owner’s club
June 8, 2011 at 8:57 pm #3213I’ve just a renewall from FJ on another car I have, it’s over £150 more than last year and £175 more than the cheapest I can get…time to move on
