Hello ,
After a day looking at the way to send roof vents overseas , here is my conclusion :
I can build a wooden box around the part that will be 115 x 38 x 7 cms size and 6.5 kgs approximatively
then to send to USA Wisconsin by Fedex , it cost 61.57€ (or 205.45 € by UPS more rapid but still 10 days )
to Australia Queensland , it is 102.64€ with Fedex ( 355.00 € with UPS !!)
this is the price without the taxes , it is the taxes of your country that will be applied , I have to make an invoice and you pay the taxes when the box arrive ,
it is realy too expensive , it is more than double price of the part , and I don’t know how we can resolve the paiment .
Sorry , it’s no reasonable, the only good opportunity would be that someone you know comes in France and take the part back to you .
You can also find an other solution …….
MichelMay 19, 2011 at 10:48 pm #4057Another option would be to send to the UK first, then I have some space in a container which is leaving for Australia in June 🙂
Are your figures pounds or euros 😕May 20, 2011 at 5:23 am #4058It would be easyer for England , the prices are in euros

I keep one for you , if you come to Vitré again , my mother in law lives there , we go often in this town .
I can leave the part and you take it when you come .
And more , I leave 2 covers and you bring one to the container of Jerryd if it’s not fare in England
MIchelMay 21, 2011 at 12:58 pm #4061Michel,
I wanted to thank you for your time of looking into shipping costs I appreciate it.Thanks again!
May 24, 2011 at 9:12 pm #4062Hi all
I had to buy a roof vent from Dormobile when I rebuilt Barney. It does flap a little, but has never lifted in over 8000 miles of trips. This could be because the roof box on the front roof rack protects it, but I’m not sure.
Would like one of Michel’s roof vents, but a little skint at present.
Just got back from a little holiday in Barney.
Hi Westcoastrover
Rebuilt my Dormobile over the last 4 years, happy to help, if I can?
Cheers Mick

May 25, 2011 at 6:39 pm #4064Hello Mick,
Thanks for the post. I am thinking my rebuild will take atleast 4 years, but with school probably a few more. What kind of shape was your dormobile in when
you started?Thanks,
JonathanMay 25, 2011 at 7:48 pm #4065Yes, nice to have Yorkshire Pudding Mick back (in small doses!). When are we going to get a fully-detailled trip report?…!!
However, while accepting that Michel’s (Mr Jones’s) roof-vents are of excellent quality, I don’t understand everyone’s aversion to the modern Dormobile roof-vent. Mine has completed 150,000 kms of hard use, most of it off-road, including three Sahara crossings, with no problem whatsoever. Granted, it has a pop-fastened safety strap at each end, in addition to the central screw-locking adjuster,(as fitted by Dormobile to their standard factory conversions), but it is, IMHO, a completely satisfactory and good value product.
On another note, are any of you “Europeans” intending to attend the Swiss Series meeting in July, or the “Bal de Series” in September? I believe Scotland, always more open-minded than their ‘Sassenach’ neighbours, will be represented, what about “Le Yorkshire Perfide”? – over to you ,,,, !!
May 26, 2011 at 3:08 pm #4066Hi Ant – hope you are well
(Sorry for perpetuating the thread hijack but)Roof light – am sick of having to tighten it up on the move as it rattles itself loose – and Michel’s is quality
Swiss Series – no
French Series – no
Maybe end July first week August across La Manche but not sure where we’ll get to yet!
May 26, 2011 at 7:28 pm #4067Hi Mid
What condition was Barney in?
She was rescued by a chap, who then left her parked up on grass for 14 years. He never quite got round to restoring her and she was slowly robbed for spares. She lost her gearbox, seatbox and all the the floors. Trees were growing through the vehicle.
One week ago in the Sahara.
Notice the missing sidelight lens. One of two that fell off vehicles. I’m surprised that was the only bit to fall off on the corrugations!!!
Cheers Mick

Why did you move the number plate?May 26, 2011 at 9:26 pm #4069HI Alex
Why did you move the number plate?
To cover a rust hole in a otherwise very straight bumper.
