Hi Midwestrover!
I am part of the french contingent I suppose!
Welcome and enjoy : this forum is rather private (not so many dormobile of any make abound), it is international and it is multilingual : english, welsh, scottish, french & rubbish.
Being the proud owner of a “Michel made” roof vent, I can confirm it is a great piece of remanufacturing. I am sure we can ask him if he would make a batch, I recall him saying “MOQ =3” for a batch
For those interested, I am happy to funnel your demands into Michel and see what happens,
Kind regards,
Marc
May 11, 2011 at 9:38 pm #4042Marc, thank you for the reply!
I am interested in a roof vent made by Michel, so if you wouldn’t mind letting him know (hoping that a few others would also be interested) I would greatly
appreciate it!I am also in need of the rear gutter piece, mine is there but broken in two pieces. It may be fixable, but if anyone out there knows of someone who happens
to remanufacture this piece please let me know! I know that dormobile ltd supplies this piece, so any input on their replacement gutter piece would also be appreciated. Thanks again everyone for the replies!
May 12, 2011 at 7:28 am #4043Marc,
I’m glad you’re still watching this forum! As I don’t speak French, would you please inquire with Michel for me so there are at least 2 on queue? It’s really stupid how many spare parts I’m buying for this truck, but the vent cover I have is just not right … I guess I would have to come to Bannegon to get it 😉
@ Midwest:
I did patch my rear gutter, but it was only cracked, not entirely broken. Fiberglass is very easy to repair permanently. Plenty info online or at hobby shops. In general you can buy newly manufactured, functional things for your car. But there’s not much incentive for others to do things to a high or original standard for you, so doing it yourself is the best way to get close. I had to learn this the hard way.

PS: one problem we’re having with the new canopy and the new roof vent cover is that they both admit much more light than the old ones. The old products let us darken the interior better for sleeping. When the sun sets at 10pm here in Europe in the summer, and comes up at 5:30, or if there’s a streetlight, as there often are in European campgrounds, the kids don’t sleep well.May 12, 2011 at 3:13 pm #4044Jeremy i was searching around on the internet and came across what looks to be the restoration or your dormobile top rebuild? In the domain name it had “jhackney” if that is yours, the top looks great! When you listed the parts that you ordered from dormobile ltd. the roof edge strip, did you order the standard U-shaped trim or trim with soft round rubber extrusion added? Also the rubber T-straps, are those the rubber roof securing straps offered by dormobile ltd? Were you pretty satisfied with those items from them?
May 14, 2011 at 11:09 am #4045I thought I sent you the link to my rebuild? Anyway you found it. I haven’t updated the site in years.
The roof is the best-documented part and should be an adquate indication of what you have in store. Removing the screws was — literally — painful.
Like many Dormobiles, only the rear tub and door, side frames, interior, and roof were from the original vehicle. My vehicle turned out to be completely shot, and a “bitsa” (made of parts from many vehicles). I took the Martin Walter stuff and put it on yet another vehicle. In the end, I probably haven’t saved much money over a true restoration onto the chassis I had. At least I lost no originality, and I saved a lot of time. Also, at the time, I had no facilities for rebuilding from the chassis up. I only had bicycle tools when I started.
I ordered all the roof parts from Dormobile Ltd. I since found that most parts are available locally. The rubber T-straps I got from Dormobile were weathered and cracked out of the package. I ordered the standard edging without the seal and it was fine. Again, this is available locally, and in many colors. My roof had a white edging when I got it. I don’t see how the roof would close with a sealing lip. It does not have to seal; the canopy keeps water out.
You do not need the tool for the 2-piece window seal, though it might make it easier. A screwdriver works. I did a writeup on this forum on how to do it, and there are others all over the WWW, because this is a common way to put in automotive windows.
Monopoly, well, to expect competition would be too much. The market for Dormobile spare parts is so small that we can be glad there’s someone at least trying to offer products from the original plans.
So, you’re looking at a lot of work and a bit more money … you said you’re a university student?!
-JeremyMay 15, 2011 at 1:05 am #4046Jeremy thanks for the reply.
Yes I am a student, I am just finishing up my associates at a local two year college and I am transferring in fall. Staying at a two year college saved me money, but that money I saved I used to buy my dormobile.
May 16, 2011 at 5:00 pm #4047Is anyone here familiar with Pegasus parts? I believe they are located in the UK they sell complete replacement bulkheads as well as replacement parts for bulkheads. In the near future I hope to order a pair of replacement door posts from them, since the only replacement posts I have find in the United States seem very poor quality, and from their website Pegasus parts look just as good the originals. If anyone has experience with Pegasus parts for Land Rovers or know of anyone who has, any comments/input would be appreciated.
Thanks for your time!
May 17, 2011 at 8:22 am #4048hi midwest,
i use 5 or 6 suppliers. i haven’t used pegasus yet.
this forum is more dormobile-oriented, but for land rover stuff, especially of the age of our vehicles (series 2a), you’ll find more information on land rover forums. i use (and am a member of) the series 2 club forum in the UK:
there are compiled lists of regarded retailers on that forum, as well as a special forum for spare parts in the U.S.
i can highly recommend p.a. blanchard, who are very clear about who manufactured their parts, and who also had fast and cheap shipping.

May 17, 2011 at 8:50 pm #4049Hi,
I have sent a PM to Mr Jones asking him if he still has stock or would consider a production batch for 2 roof vents,
Wait & see…Marc
May 18, 2011 at 1:06 am #4050Marc,
Thank you for sending him a message, I appreciate it.
May 18, 2011 at 10:53 am #4051I’d be interested in a roof vent if they are available too, I’m sure the postage wouldn’t be too great to Australia 🙂 would it ??
I’m about to order some items from Jim at Dormobile as I’ve got some space in a container. Will you know within a week or so ??
May 18, 2011 at 1:10 pm #4052Hello , I am at work and no time to speek with you : yes , I have still new roof vents , and no idea of the price for shipping to USA or Australia ??

MichelMay 18, 2011 at 8:13 pm #4053Hello,
very glad to discover that my production of roof vent is better than the other , I did’nt know this before , probably because I was not at Lyons where you had the opportunity to compare the 2 parts .
Mine are more expensive ( 100€ ), but be sure that I don’t get any money with this . As I told in the other post , the mould cost me very much but now , it’s very easy for me to have new vents .
To day I still have 4 of them left at home , brand new .
I would have to build a wooden box for shipping and ask for the price of the carrier , and the problem of money change , not easy for me but I can try . I am in a provincial town of France but I can leave the parts in the center of Paris where my son lives , also I shall be in Bannegon in september 2011 .
To send overseas , it would be cheeper to group the sending if you are not alone .
MichelMay 18, 2011 at 11:44 pm #4054Hi Michel,
Thank you for your reply, is that price euros or pounds ?? and does your vent come with new fittings or is it just the new moulded piece ??
I think it may be too difficult for you to arrange to send to Australia, but if you “can” find out total cost to send, my postal code is “Queensland 4521”I’m afraid there are only four known landrover dormobiles here, two of which are non runners I believe.
May 19, 2011 at 5:40 am #4055😀 bonjour michel, heureux de te lire 😉
