    Hello all….

The ongoing saga of a sickly 1960 CA Dormobile….

After looking through the spec sheets of the various Vauxhalls and Bedfords of the time, I see that the Victor used the same engine as the CAs. Are the engine mounting points etc identical? Has anyone on here used one of these engines, were there any problems? I have found a couple of suitable engines, but don’t want to commit to buy or travel for a couple of hours if there’s a problem.

    Cheers, Andy

They did use the same engines in the victors, you might be able to get hold of a higher performance engine as well !!
I think the vans we de-tuned for economy.

      Thanks for the Ebay link…

I have managed to track down a few Vauxhall Victor manuals at some car boot sales last Summer, so have been scouring them for info. I reckon the engines will be OK, just as long as engine mounting points are similar. I was just reckoning that someone MUST have some experience in the conversion. Also on the list of upgrades would be a disc conversion, but I’ll need to do a lot more research first…. Looks like Victor FC and VX/40 may be viable.

Ah well, engine, gearbox and clutch have parted company for the first time in MANY MANY years…..

Found a chap that will weld cast iron, so he says he’ll have a go. TBH, he’s got a really good reputation, and has been doing it for longer than the CA is old. So there’s a good chance it can be repaired. Fingers crossed 🙂

I’d read a few horror stories on the ‘net about welding blocks, so didn’t think I’d have a go.

Went over to a place this morning, where I spotted a couple of Debonairs last Summer. Couldn’t find anyone about, but left a message to see if any parts are available, so if I hear anything I’ll post the details on here.

Right, back to tidying the mechanical bits I’ve unbolted…….
