Has anybody converted their Land Rovers from the original 2.6 petrol to anything else? I have had plenty of series land rovers before but I don’t remember them being quite as slow as my dormobile. Even with overdrive, she does struggle to get anything around 50mph and I think quite a few of the 69 horses she left with from the factroy have escaped.
I am not overly worried about originality as I lost interest in that when I had a pair of 101FC and was looked down on by their rivet counters concours owners. I have found a conversion that doesn’t seem too difficult here http://www.glencoyne.co.uk/200di.htm but I am intersestde in other oqners experinces.
Incidentally, this is my daily driver so does a round trip of 40 miles on the hilly Somerset/Dorset border.
Cheers
Hi buffer,
There’s plenty of information on the “Series Two” forum regards to 200 + 300 tdi conversions, it’s worth registering to get access to the info. I kept quiet that mine’s a series III 😆
I have a Holden 186 motor fitted to mine, I think it’s about a 3.3 or 3.6 litre six cylinder motor. It goes really well but is far too thirsty so I’m going to put a 300 tdi defender motor into mine. I’ve also fitted stage one axles/diffs/brakes etc and overdrive.
My 2a has got a 200 tdi in (was a 6 pot, so plenty of room to use the series radiator, as long as you weld new engine mounts)
Mick (Jabbawocky) has a 300 tdi in.
Any questions just ask – but as Jerry says, series 2 club forum is a wealth of info
