      Hello,

I’m putting in new curtains, and I’d like to reproduce their layout as close to original as I can.

I’m finding snaps (press studs) in various places in the original interior trim, which aren’t used by the curtains my previous owner put in. The purpose of the snaps seems partially self-evident, but some seem incomplete or superfluous. Would someone kindly verify/complete this list?

*BC-posts there is one snap each, about shoulder-height when I’m sitting in the seat, for the bands that hold the curtains back.
*On the roof sides behind the side doors there is one snap each side at the same height, for the same reason
*The metal trim piece next to the rear seat that covers the tub galvanizing has one snap on each side, at about the height of the seat base. What’s that for?
*There are 6 snaps around the roof/tub on the rear right, behind the bottle rack: 4 on the roof above the windows, and 2 on the tub (one on the galvanizing and one on the tub strengthener by the door). Should that be one single curtain or two?
*I’m pretty sure the rear door is original. It has two snaps each side at the bottom of the window. But no snap for a band holding the curtain open. Should it have one? How was the curtain held open originally?
*There are 3 snaps on the rear window next to the stove: 2 above the window and one on the door side. Should there also be a 4th in the corner next to/behind the stove?
*What if anything was used to hold the roof curtains in position?
*Any that I’m missing in this list?

      Thanks!
      Jeremy

        Hi Jeremy

From what I remember (no comments please!) the roof curtains were held in place by Silentgliss rails top and bottom. Sorry, can’t help with the rest.

          Same on Barney.

          Same on Barney

Not sure, will look at Barney

One Curtain. We leave that curtain up all the time.

Barney has the two lower snaps, but curtain rail has been moved to roof and snap for tie back is on water carrier.

I think Barney has only three. don’t think you need the forth.

*What if anything was used to hold the roof curtains in position?
Nothing. We leave the roof curtains closed, when driving.

Might still have the sizes we made the curtains? If not, I can soon measure ours? Would the sizes be useful?

          Cheers Mick

            Thanks, Mick!

Don’t need dimensions as I already made all the curtains, judging the dimensions from photos in the brochures.

My water bottle rack is not original, so it hasn’t got any original holes to guide placing snaps or those bottle straps (though the wardrobe, itself, has the holes for the straps).

I saw a photo of Michel J.’s rear door in which there’s a loop on one of the lower snaps, the one near the door hinge, apparently to hold the rear curtain open. When I got my Dormobile, the rear curtain rail had been moved from the door inside to the roof trim, so the door could be left open while the curtain remained closed.

Next to the stove, I just used the 3 snaps and the curtain does indeed stay in place! I don’t think I’d cook with it there, though (fire!).

PS I saw on the S2 forum that that new sixpot head is still for sale. Did you pick it up? It was photographed with its machined face sitting on rough concrete. What was he thinking??

              HI Jeremy

I have no other studs or screw holes in the rear door or in the bodywork, where you would expect a tie back to be. It must have been on the water carrier?

              Cheers Mick

I just went ahead and replaced snaps where they had been on the original trim as I received it. Where it made sense, I put a corresponding snap on a curtain. Might not be “standard” but a previous owner thought it useful. On the rear door I put a loop on the snap near the door hinge to hold the curtain open, as well as snaps on the curtain to hold it onto the door when the curtain is closed. I don’t want to tear anything off the bottle shelf by opening the rear door.

Here’s the interesting snap on the side curtain. (Note: the curtains are beige, not pink!).

                  Hi Jeremy

Louise has asked me to place a snap next to the wardrobe, like in your picture, because when our curtains have been held by the tiebacks for a while, they wrinkled and don’t close properly at the ends. Got to fit two in the middle of the windscreen as well for the same reason.

                  Cheers Mick

I already have black greasy fingerprints on my curtains. Where does it all come from?!

@michel: it would be a fine addition to this thread, if it’s no trouble!

@mick: I made my front curtains 6″ longer, as well, so that I can pull them up to the windscreen corners at the bottom. Otherwise the light leaks are pretty big toward the dash, and/or your feet catch the curtains and open them during the night. I’ve thought of putting in snaps on the dash, too, to hold them. For the moment it works to tuck the curtains between the black fascia and the windscreen.
