Having just received my Accuspark electronic ignition I went to pop the van into gear and there was a grinding noise. I shut it down put it in gear, dropped the clutch and then tried starting it again but it just lurched forward as obviously the clutch was not engaging. I have just run through the entirety of the adjustment to see if anything could free it up but it still does not work.
When I got the van it had stood for 10 years BUT I drove it out of the garden where it was and down an A road to a nearby yard. When in the yard I drove it back and forth between gears with no problem so it seems strange to me that now it has decided to seize. Can anyone offer any other explanations or any techniques of freeing it up without having to take the gearbox to pieces?
I was hoping to book it in for its MOT in the next two months!April 23, 2011 at 5:58 pm #4007hi as long as you clutch has not come apart, jack both rear wheels clear of the ground start in gear keep clutch pedle pushed down and rev engine up and down until clutch break free also pull hand brake on and off at the sametime might help cheers
April 23, 2011 at 8:42 pm #4008Hi
you can take the splash gard off the bottem of the bellhousing
that will let you undo the pressure plate
you will only be abel to get at 2 bolts at a time but easy to do
slide it back yoou can then look at the center plate if it is all ok
just put it back togeatherApril 24, 2011 at 3:37 pm #4009Thanks all for your advice. I have freed the clutch and have been driving it back and forwards today for the first time in half a year and the second time in over a decade. I ran the engine for a while to get some temperature in the box etc and then shut it down and started it in second gear with the clutch pedal down, it freed up first time. Fantastic. I’ve not had that happen before so I was slightly concerned for a moment then.
April 24, 2011 at 5:24 pm #4010Well done.
Mine got stuck last year unfortunately any attempts to free it failed and as it was parked with it’s rear against the house facing up the driveway which is on about a 20 degree slope we had no choice but to cut the cab floor out to free it! Nightmare.
Anyway I was told to keep the clutch pedal depressed with a piece of wood whenever I’m not driving it. Not had a problem since (fingers crossed).
