Does anyone know where I can get hold of a new set of carpets for my 65 CA van? It is converted into a Walters Dormobile, but I would like a full carpet in the back?
Any ideas

I asked at the local carpet place and they showed me a load of “offcut” carpets which were big enough. £20 each.
In the end I decided I didn’t want carpet (I’m clearly going to make a big mess of it), so I got a big roll of red rubber flooring. Definitely not original.
April 11, 2011 at 1:22 pm #3959not really bothered too much about originality, but it looks right from the outside, I just want the same for the inside. How dis the rubber matting go around the arches in the cockpit?

April 11, 2011 at 6:17 pm #3960Ok – to be honest I’ve not laid the rubber flooring yet (I prefer it as a rather large obstacle in the hall). I was going to lay it but as it got a grip (i.e. it has grooves) and the van is such a ‘work in progress’ at the moment (plenty of grime and paint going to be hitting the floor yet) I decided to leave it until later on.
I think you’re taking about the wheel arches, the rubber flooring is not going to go up them, just around into the foot wells. The aluminium edging was in a pretty poor way and I couldn’t really save it, plus the wheel arches have to have had some patching, riveting, welding, then fibreglassed smooth so even if I got replacement aluminium edging they wouldn’t fit the wheel arch. Which is a shame. I really liked the way that looked. Still, I think I like the fact my wheel arches aren’t held together with carpet more. 🙂
The rubber flooring wasn’t a cheap option. Carpet would have been cheaper. I also considered lino for the back (something like this – http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Black-White-Square-Vinyl-Flooring-Non-Slip-Lino-2m-/190421182677?pt=UK_Flooring&var=&hash=item72168e2f32) but my floor isn’t perfectly flat either plus those checks are a bit ostentatious (whereas a red rubber floor is just sheer class 😀 ).
I’d be interested to hear what others have done and what really is “original”. The cab of mine looked like it had had some 2mm black rubber matting originally (it only remained under the seats and trim) and the back area floor is white with multi coloured specks (looks like a gumball).
April 11, 2011 at 7:31 pm #3961hi all
my bedford ca had rubber matt’s in the front the short you used to see on factory floors in the 60s and 70s it had a checker design embossed in it that was the original matting it was a dark Gray i did try to find some but i could not find it so i put carpet in the front and yes Trish it dose not go all over the wheel arches just on the flat part of the arch as you step in
and the rear of the van has lino in it my van was red with black speckles from new i replaced it with something as close and put a carpet runner down the middle it works well you can see it on my restoration photos 😐
dave glanfieldps after saying all that gaz managed to find the lino the same as what was in he van in in Newcastle
May 3, 2011 at 11:59 pm #3962Guys,
I took some advice from a local Campervan conversion shop. he used carpet that is stretchy, it looks absolutely superb and covers all those bolt heads you see undferfoot in the front. gonna do the roof in the front its that good, just use spray carpet glue. All done
